That defender shouldn't have had to block that shot. He was probably mesmerized by Freese's stupidity.

The US looked like the old school US team for the first 45 minutes. They were nervous as shit and making so many hesitant plays. Once they got down they came out in the 2nd half much more aggressive and looked a lot better. But Belgium was already playing well and it was too late. Throw in the boneheaded goalie play and it was over.

I think the goalie actually made the right play there. There was a guy charging in on a break away and he raced up to beat him to the ball. Not a bad play and he did get there... but once he was there, he totally shit the bed. Just blast the fucking ball out of there. Another hesitation play and that's all it takes at this level.

At that moment, Freese should have treated the ball like a hand grenade and get it as far away from that side of the field as possible. Oh well, it is what it is.
