@Dank Data Tanks

The Philadelphia Flyers said Friday that they have tendered an offer to sheet to Anaheim Ducks star center Leo Carlsson for a five-year deal that's worth $18 million annually.

Just seeing this, the Ducks matched but people who care about league wide pay scales for star players (not me) considered it a win for our once star player and current GM Danny Briere.

@Ulf Murphy

You'll enjoy this... Chris Drury ranked #28 out of all hockey GMs and the Rangers front office #32. Hahaha.

What a fail of a site if you can't even have the list of this whole rankings or navigate to next or previous one

Even if they've only done a few of them so far in random order

Ha. I was looking for the ESPN article because I actually read this a couple of days ago there and have been meaning to post it for Ulf. He loves Drury and the Rangers! This was the first link I found today referencing it so I just posted that. The 32 out of 32 for the front office was from an Atlantic fan poll. And they were also ranked like 24th in prospect pipeline... when he came in 5 years ago they were #5 in the league. That is probably the most damning stat for him. The first couple of years he was there they were in win-now mode so that makes sense to trade off a couple but these last few years going downhill and they haven't restocked shit. Not good. They got Dorofeyev in June but they traded our first rounder this year to get him. But he's only 25 so maybe that will wind up being a good move. Who knows. I have no idea what their plan actually is.

I LOVE inept front offices of my competitors!!
Man... I'm really looking forward to some hockey these days too. For some reason I just can't get into the baseball season this year but I'm ready to go for some hockey! I don't know how long that enthusiasm is gonna last though lol

I get it. I expected the worst with the Pens last year and was pleasantly surprised at the regular season and not surprised at all about the playoffs, lol.

We have a LOT of work to do, but I am excited about this rebuild they are trying to pull off without tearing it all down. Have some good young pieces, a ton of draft picks still, and a generational icon or two still. Should be fun this year, even thought I do not have high hopes to get 2nd in the division again. But who knows!

Hellebuyck makes trade request from Jets public

Goalie says with training camp approaching, moving on from Winnipeg 'best path forward'

He waited too long. Any team that could have gone after them already locked up their cap. He is gonna end up on Columbus or Detroit playing for just as shitty a team as Winnipeg.

There's been rumors for a while so he may have asked for it in private first

I just read his statement, and you are correct. He asked at the end of the season privately.

The problem is he has a full No Movement Clause for this season, so he can deny anything...and might have done so. After this season he ahs a 10 team NTC clause, so there will be competition for his services.

I wonder if Winnipeg will not publicly state who he denied trades to, if he did deny them. This could get ugly.

The rumors are that Carolina looks to be the most likely landing spot for a package that includes their disgruntled defenseman Nikishin. It would be pretty crazy of a top 3 ish goalie gets traded TO the Stanley Cup Champ.

They could have just told him we appreciate you asking but that's a you problem... so maybe he should have gone public earlier

Avalanche's Makar agrees to record deal worth $20.4 annually

Cale Makar has agreed to an eight-year extension with the Colorado Avalanche that will make him the highest-paid player in NHL history.

The deal carries a $20.4 million average annual value. He is the first player in league history to make at least $20 million per season. The max a player could make, per percentage of the salary cap, is $20.8 million.

Makar, 27, has been a finalist for the Norris Trophy as the league's top defenseman for six consecutive seasons.

He is one of only 14 players to win multiple Norris Trophies, winning the award twice -- most recently in 2025.

Outcry after star NHL player appears in Putin’s United Russia campaign ad

Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin is facing calls for an NHL ban after appearing in a campaign advertisement for Vladimir Putin’s United Russia party.

Pictured alongside Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and RT editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan, Ovechkin drew sharp criticism from public figures and fans.

Critics are urging the Capitals to release Ovechkin and calling on the US and Canada to issue visa bans against the Moscow native.

Ovechkin, the NHL’s all-time leading goalscorer, has a long history of supporting Putin, including founding the Putin Team movement in 2017.

The Washington Capitals also faced backlash for posting supportive social media content featuring Ovechkin amid the growing controversy.

I stopped watching hockey decades ago. Weird because I was such a HUGE Hab fan back then. I just watched part of some Habs playoff games last Spring.

I just completely lost interest. I couldn't even name 5 players with the Canadiens right now.
