What happened to this fight??? I heard about it while watching UFC 82 when Joe interviewed Coleman at ringside. He looked O.K and he seemed pretty keen. I know it was a while ago but if anyone knows what happened I'm all ears.

Brock Lesnar can literally kill Coleman if they fight .

Coleman had a knee injury. But according to Lesnar, Coleman was just afraid to face him.

I'm glad this never happened - it would have been a bad day for Coleman, and an irrelevant win for Lesnar.

I was never much of a fan of his - my favourite highlight of Coleman was Pete Williams kicking him in the face - he wasn't bad, exactly, but he hasn't aged well (like some freaks of nature - Randy and Hendo, I'm looking at you).

Where I'm from - NZ - we never got Pride, just K-1 (Go Sefo). We only started getting UFC a few years ago, and SF hardly ever gets aired here (even on paid T.V.). So yeah, I'm doing my best to keep up, God bless the World Wide Web...

I never saw much of the K1, sadly. I saw most of the PRIDE on DVD towards the tail end of its lifespan (it died in 2007). Figures I got right into all these great fighters after they'd had all their great moments - Wanderlei's five-year run as champ, Shogun's 2005 run through the middleweight tournament, and Fedor being Fedor.
Although if you want to get a taste for it, I'd suggest their Hardcore Knockouts Volume 2 (I think), which has Shogun's 2005 tournament included. It will give you some idea why people were so excited about him coming to the UFC. He made quite the impression back in the day.
back on topic - when Coleman beat Shogun in PRIDE, Shogun dislocated his shoulder (didn't fall properly), and while he was on the ground, Coleman stepped on his head. The ring filled with guys from both camps.
that kinda thing never endeared me to Coleman (not that Lesnar has done much to win my affection).
here's Coleman celebrating his victory at the PRIDE 2000 openweight tournament -

I don't like Coleman, but he is a strong dude with really good wrestling. I think he's a bit under rated. That said, he will never be a contender again.

He was the first world-class wrestler to try his hand at MMA in the U.S. He placed at the world games for the U.S. and won two nat'l championships at THE Ohio State Univesity. He was a great athlete, really strong, really quick, but he got in the game late and didn't age like wine. If he fought Lesnar at age 44- or whatever age he would have been- he would have ended up in a coma. Brock would have literally veggitized him. Cheers to him for cutting the weight to get to 205. He WAS a great fighter in his day, but his day was long ago...
