New weight loss injection breaks records with results previously achieved only through surgery

Pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly announced impressive results from the TRIUMPH-1 trial, a Phase 3 study examining retatrutide, an experimental drug of an entirely new type that simultaneously activates three hormone receptors. The results are impressive by any measure. 45.3% of participants who received 12 mg lost 30% or more of their body weight, a level that for many years was considered the exclusive domain of bariatric surgery. 27.2% of them even lost more than 35%. 62.5% lost more than 25%. The new drug, administered as a once-weekly injection, will be the only one to activate three hormone receptors: GIP, GLP-1 and glucagon. This is a combination that has not yet been expressed in any approved drug. Mounjaro, for example, acts on only two receptors, and Wegovy, Novo Nordisk's competitor, acts on one receptor.

I go back and forth on my thoughts concerning these drugs. In a perfect world people would take responsibility for what they eat and go for a 4 mile walk daily. It isn't a perfect world though and some people have genuin health reasons for these drugs but majority don't and wanna take the easy way out. Oprah, I'm looking at you.

My worry is that these drugs arent a lifestyle change and unless someone is staying on them for life what is to stop them putting the weight back on over time

Seven-year follow-up data from the CROWN study present unprecedented results in advanced lung cancer, showing that 55% of patients who received Lorbrena – a third-generation ALK inhibitor – remained without disease progression after seven years of follow-up, compared to only 3% in the control group treated with Xalkori. My worry is the shit the drugs would do to someone 10 years down the road. I've been hearing about how these weight loss pills reduce bone density.

I am currently pretty overweight and am taking efforts to diet. Already shed 7 pounds in a couple weeks and aiming to get at least 8 more off, ideally 18 more. I ain't touching these pills with a 10 foot pole.

I am the same way. 30 pounds overweight. Used to be 40. I am resisting, but that 10 pounds was the hardest 10 pounds I have ever lost.

I have 2 male friends that take GLP-1's in their 50's as well, and they have lost significant muscle mass. The one has lost probably 40 pounds and actually looks frail now and I do not have the heart to tell him. his wife is "in love" with his new look. He looks like a 70 year old man to me.

Revolution's lifesaving pancreatic cancer drug wins speedy FDA approval

The U.S. FDA has approved Revolution Medicines' (RVMD.O), opens new tab groundbreaking pancreatic cancer drug after it was shown to double the survival rate of patients with advanced disease in a large trial, offering new hope to those with the deadly cancer.

The once-daily pill, to be called Rasonque, was approved for metastatic ‌pancreatic cancer in patients who have received prior treatment or cannot receive combination chemotherapy. The drug is designed to block several forms of the RAS protein, which helps drive tumor growth in many pancreatic cancers.

Revolution said the drug is now available in the U.S. at a price of $39,800 for a 30-day supply, with eligible commercially insured patients potentially paying as little as $0 with co-pay assistance.

When Revolution announced the trial results in April for the drug, it set off a firestorm of demand. ⁠The FDA quickly granted early access to it under its compassionate use program, which allows patients with serious or life-threatening conditions to get experimental treatments outside clinical trials prior to authorization by the regulator.

The treatment has already offered some patients with early access to the drug a reprieve from the toll of chemotherapy.
Barbara Andes, 88, of Fullerton, California, who began taking it in July after a year of chemotherapy, said the pill allowed her to resume regular activities and caused far less nausea and fatigue. The approval would open access to the treatment for many more patients, she added.
