Vera has always been a competitor, not really a 'contender' though.
Shogun had some terrible cardio; again. There have been rumors, strictly rumors that he had surrounded himself with yes men and basically fell in to poor training. And it has shown, we can blame injuries, and the damage has been done, but the fact remains he is not the same fighter 5 years ago.
Bader's style played perfectly in to Machida game plan. That was vintage Machida 101. Probably the best all around striker in the LHW division.
Personally, I can't watch Shogun get massacred again. I will be honest and say that the night Jon Jones destroyed Machida really hurt my interest in the sport. I have constantly watched the sport for 9 going on 10 years now but Jones/Rua was one of the hardest fights I have ever watched. ---Machida stands a much better chance against Jones than Shogun because of his constancy, quickness, use of distance, and short punches.
Shogun plodding forward is just going to get picked apart by Jones again. Shogun needs to drop a little bit of weight, and change his footwork or he will never be the dominate fighter he once was.
I'm glad Dana never said Machida v Rua 3 rubber match contender match,because in reality in should've been 2-0 to Rua,highway robbery and I think Rua has Machidas number..A bit like Chuck had Randys and Edgar had Penns..
I think Rua should get his chance after Machida gets his(providing Jon beats Hendo) as Bones is young he can more fights than normal..Then by the time he probably beats them,then Gustavsson and Glover might be ready to face him..

Hey I don't make the rules..My friend Mr Dana White makes them lol ...Nah it was a bigger shock to me than them probably, that one of them were getting a shot..I agree though they don't deserve it after the bones destruction,but I'm still happy for Machida,coz he's a nice guy..

He won every round and finished Vera. They both got a finish tonight against a game opponent. Then if you look back further both have losses against a good opponent - shogun against henderson and Lyoto against Rampage. From the performances in that set of fights I think Shogun looked way better.
Then they've both got finishes against fighters who are clearly past it (Couture and Griffin). Then before that they have the two fights against each other. Shogun KO'd machida in the second one there, and more people than not think he was robbed in the first one. So all in I would say if you need to give one of them a title shot just now, Shogun is the more deserving. But like I say its all to do with styles and I think Lyoto has more chance of winning so happy to see him get it
how quickly has jones cleaned out the division?
the 4 guys fighting last night (machida, bader, shogun and vera) were all destroyed by jones in the last 2 years. now there is nobody left so one of them has to fight bones again. I'm glad its Machida because he is the only one that would stand a tiny chance.
and yes i am looking past the jones vs hendo fight because hendo has no chance. i really think they should have just given a title shot to gustaffson, but i think dana white wants to build him up a bit first. give him a few more fights, let him get a bit better/stronger and hopefully he will make more of a fight out of it (compared to if gustaffson fought jones today).

Its amazing what Jones has done since he entered into the UFC. Hell, the past few years, the kid has been on a TEAR of the LHW division.

Rua
Machida
Rampage
Evans
4 former champs, a top contender (at the time), and 4 of those fights stopped (3 submission, 1 TKO, 1 UD).
Perssonally, I think now is the time for Gustaffson vs Machida for the #1 contender. Then, have Glover vs Shogun (should Glover beat Rampage), as a lead in as well for another contender.
I'm not excited about Machida and Jones. Machida is 2-3 in his last fights and really 2-4. So he was a little confusing in the first round. He was still destroyed.
I really love how often Jones fights and really appreciate it. I know Silva gets credit for greatest of all time, but Jones has put away a lot of former champions.
I'd love to see Jones Silva and thats the only Super fight I'm into.
