It's led by the same Thai extraction team that got all the kids out of a similar situation few years ago

But here these 4 kids went out on their own

Yes, I remember following that story. Sad about the rescuer that died in the process, but it was not in vain. I've watched the video you posted, but I think they also made a movie about it. I've not watched that.

35 years for this is a pretty wild sentence for someone who is already 52.

I can't say I feel much sympathy for her, given the repeated nature of what she did and her indifference when things went horribly sideways.... but it is bizarre how she gets 35 years for this while you got murderers and arsonists who actually took lives that are getting 15-30.

The other part I don't get is... she was convicted of 'facilitating forcible sexual assault'. Ok, I get that and that makes sense... but, ZERO of the boys who did the raping/forced sexual assault were charged?

I get that they were juvies and likely would have been charged as such... but all of them went unpunished (DA refused to press charges, said they were also victims) and this chick gets 35 years for 'encouraging' it?

That's weird to me... I'd be fucking pissed if I was the fathers of one of the kids who was on the receiving end of the sexual assault.

This comes back to the, "could I see myself doing this?" theory of criminal justice. I attended a few house parties between 14-16 and drank at some of them... I never raped any of my classmates and I wouldn't have considered trying to have sex with a chick if she was clearly passed out... that's fucked up. There is no way a parent or older kid at any of the parties could have egged me into raping a classmate against their will.

TLDR: Our criminal justice system is so messed up. I have no problem with this bitch doing hard time. I just don't get how you can convict her for 'encouraging rape', but then no one gets charged with the actual rape? Make that make sense.

California’s ‘Los Gatos party mom’ sentenced to 35 years in prison

Shannon O’Connor, 52, was convicted of charges including child endangerment and facilitating forcible sexual assault

A judge has sentenced a San Francisco Bay Area mother to 35 years in prison after her conviction for a slew of crimes resulting from hosting drunken sex parties for young teenagers.

Widely known as the “Los Gatos party mom”, a nickname that references her hometown, 52-year-old Shannon O’Connor was convicted of four dozen crimes in March, including child endangerment, dissuading witnesses from reporting a crime and facilitating forcible sexual assault. Her sentence was the maximum allowed under state law.

O’Connor must also register as a sex offender.

“This isn’t some fun parent giving sips of wine spritzers to kids,” Santa Clara district attorney Jeff Rosen wrote in a statement. “She facilitated dangerous and drunken sex acts with these children. She risked their lives and damaged their psyches. She is not a party mom. Shannon O’Connor is a convicted felon. Shannon O’Connor is a registered sex offender.”

During a series of parties, O’Connor bought Fireball whiskey, vodka and condoms for teens mostly aged 14 and 15, allowed them to drink to the point of vomiting, then declined to seek medical attention for them. In some cases, she encouraged the drunken teens to have sex with each other or placed them into rooms together, including in instances where they were too drunk to consent.

Several victims testified in court that they had been sexually assaulted or traumatized in O’Connor’s care.

O’Connor hid her activity from other parents as well as her husband.

“My actions are the cause for your pain and I am ashamed,” she said in court, according to ABC7 Eyewitness News. “And I face every day knowing that I was the cause.”

“I am not sorry for myself, I am sorry for all of you and what I put you through,” O’Connor added. “But as I look at you all today, I hope you can find some comfort knowing that I have been punished and will continue to be for years to come.”

O’Connor’s lawyer told the court that she threw the parties in an attempt to improve her son’s social life during the isolated times of the Covid-19 pandemic, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Ya, absolute shit lady and couldn't care less what happens to her, but when stacking up to other convictions for different crimes...just doesn't make sense anymore. I posted a link here recently where a woman got 180 days in jail and probation for stabbing her sister 10+ times. Then you see 35 years for this and it's like...what?

When I worked at the jail here, two guys got sentenced around the same time. One guy got 40+ years for meth related charges. Another guy got 25 years for brutally raping an 80+ yr old woman, setting her house on fire, and leaving her for dead. She was so injured from the assault, that she had to crawl out of her burning house to a neighbor's. Sentencing seems a bit off to me....

Exactly.

I have no problem with her, or anyone else who does what she did, getting 35 years. I'm not ranting against that part of it at all.

This wasn't an isolated incident where she made one impulsive bad choice in an attempt to gain her kid some street cred and things spiraled out of control. She kept doubling down and involving more and more people, there was clear intent behind her actions. Throw the book at her, that's fine.

Prisons are meant for people like her who are a danger to the community/children in the community. I would be 'outraged' if she was given a fine and allowed right back into the community.

I just don't get the part where she's getting hammered at sentencing for 'facilitation of sexual assault/rape'... but the people who actually did the sexual assault/raping aren't being charged at all?

That makes no sense at all.

We're going to say that the rapists are somehow victims? There's zero personal accountability for our own actions now? So, if I throw a party and my buddy Aaron decides to punch his wife in the face, I'm getting charged for accessory to domestic violence, but the DA will say he's a victim and doesn't get charged for anything because I provided him nachos and beer?

So fucked up... we're running off the rails as a society. I'd get it if the judge took into account that this bitch was providing booze and condoms and factored that into sentencing for the rapists. I don't get the part where you don't press ANY charges for sexual assault at all because alcohol and condoms were provided? But, you do charge someone else with facilitating the rape? That's nuts.

100% this makes no sense. Should the Manson Family members have avoided prison time due to all the mind-altering drugs they were provided? Shit is crazy....

Like you said, it was probably much easier to go this route since everyone else involved was a juvenile. Doesn't make it right, though.

If I'm a parent of one of the girls who got assaulted, I'm going after the DA. If that doesn't go anywhere I'll just go Judge Dredd/Punisher and take the law into my own hands.

I feel like every day I'm one step closer to becoming this guy:

Los Gatos is 90 min south of me, it's basically in Silicon Valley which is super liberal. surprised to see sentencing that harsh there. unless...there were victims related to the tech bros

Yemen's 'Spider-Man' dies after fall into volcanic crater

Dubai: A Yemeni adventurer known to thousands of social media followers as the "Spider-Man of Yemen" has died after falling into a volcanic crater while attempting a rope-free climb, authorities said.

Al Qa'qa' bin Antar, 30, was scaling the steep walls of the Haradhat Damt volcanic crater in Al Dhale province last Friday when he lost his grip and fell, according to local officials and media reports. The crater is estimated to be around 120 metres deep.

Bin Antar had built a large online following through videos documenting his daring ascents of cliffs, mountains and volcanic formations across Yemen, often climbing without ropes, harnesses or other protective equipment. His exploits earned him widespread recognition and the nickname "Spider-Man of Yemen".

Sounds about right.
