It's going to be terrible. There's no doubt anymore. Trump has shown extreme weakness and the Iranians are capitalizing. This is extremely embarrassing.
I'm glad someone else cares like you and maybe very few others here do. Most Americans are ready to move on and Iran can get whatever it wants as long as gas and such prices are going down. I'm not saying it as a criticism of anyone, it is what it is. People here are angry and depressed you can't imagine, they thought Trump is so good for us but there was always a doubt with how he normally behaves that he'll throw everyone under the bus eventually

The soldier in me can't stand to see warfare carried out so incompetently. Like I've said many times, I didn't think we should have done it when we did, but once we started, I expected ruthless efficiency until our enemy was entirely subjugated. It could have happened, too. But this is what happens when the White House micromanages a war it doesn't understand. I believe we actually had Iran on the ropes at one point and a strong push could have entirely toppled their leadership. But Trump pussied out.

Trump has balls, to a point, but he has no courage.

Yep and it doesn't even mean you should have invaded Iran and things like that, not sending any troops is one thing that most would disapprove but even continuing with the blockade while escorting ships out of there was very damaging (again it's not even the ruthless efficiency you're talking about) and we kept saying any deal would be a disaster and then they sign this fucking thing??? 10 or so concessions, hundreds of billions of dollars and "don't mess with Iran and Hezbollah in the future" out of jail card just for Hormuz and "maybe" uranium dilution?? that's much worse than we even thought of a bad deal, a fumble from the goal line returned for a TD on the other side

The Devil Dog in me feels the same way as you @Eranys !
I thought it was a bad idea from the get go, since we both knew how this movie was going to end.....either bad or somewhat bad.
If US History (post WW2) has taught us anything, is that both US Politicians and US Citizens run out of patience and resolve very quickly.
Another thing we all have learned thru the History of War, is that the Nation that sits first at the negotiating table is usually the Nation that is losing, or it's calling it quits.
Now, I get why Trump is doing this (IMHO), and that is because he is afraid of what could happen after the midterms. He more than likely will be a lame duck President, most of his Cabinet will leave, another two years of House investigations, and the likelihood that the Dems will take control of the White House in 2028.

The biggest issue for me is like E said, he already started it and just squandered all the leverage he had for nothing (even worse), regardless of it was a good or bad idea to start it...

No arguing there, @a-mart !
Considering on what I said in my previous statement to @Eranys , is why if I were Trump I would have just gone down guns blasting, since the likelihood of a "lame duck President" and losing the House & Senate is real at this time. But, make sure you tell the American people and the US Military that the clear objectives is to literally send them back to the "stone age" and to free up the Strait of Hormuz as much as possible.

There's a speculation they just won't agree on the full deal in the next few months and after midterms he'll be back bombing them or whatever, I don't buy that but maybe all the backlash and mockery will affect him

And like it was sad in the history of war video Iran will only get better with these negotiations lasting

Yep, pretty much. If this deal goes through, it will have been worth it for them to get bombed. If anything, this is an overall success story for the IRGC as they have now secured power over the mullahs.

Time is entirely on their side. The longer this gets dragged out, the better their position will be.
