Round 4

Double Parody Song

All right guys, we are in the quarter-finals, which consists of 3 rounds. For this round, you will submit a song that is a parody of movies and another song. Something like Weird Al's "The Saga Begins", which is a parody of both the "American Pie" song and "Star Wars" is a perfect example:
Weird Al will be excluded from this round btw, cause he is so good at doing parodies. Other than that, your song can come from any other source. No write-ups, just list the movie and music elements that your song parodies. Judges will score on how funny and creative the song is to them.
1. @Rickyc123
Chucky Sings A Song (Scary Child's Play Halloween Parody)
Movie: Child's Play, Music: Britney Spears-Lucky

Webble: I struggled with this one because I havent seen the film or heard the song. I went and listened to the song, I dont really do horror though so I might have missed some points, it was pretty good though 6/10
cmvideo75:
This was ok... albeit a pretty bad song to parody. It seems middle-of-the-pack after reviewing all the entries so a 7 seems right. Chucky's got some flow. 7/10
Goodcat:
Good start to this round. I have a feeling that most of these are gonna be pretty similar just based on the titles of them and watching this one. Not sure how different these scores are gonna be from me. 7/10
Brick:
Sounds like an 8-year-old wrote these lyrics. I expect far more cleverness out of a parody song. This was awful. 4/10.
Total: 24

2. darkwing
JASON VOORHEES - "EVERY LIFE I TAKE..." (EVERY BREATH YOU TAKE PARODY)
Movie: Friday the 13th, Music: The Police- Every Breath you take

Webble: Again this one was based on a horror film so I hadnt seen it and may have missed a few easter eggs. I know and love the song though and thought this was very well done 8/10
cmvideo75: This was pretty funny. I like that they did an 80's style music video for this and the real song is a very good match for this movie anyway. 8/10
Goodcat: Like I mentioned in the first, a lot of these are gonna be very similar and will have pretty similar scores. So I’ll have to be a little nitpicky to separate them. So with this one, I like that they actually made a music video instead of just using clips from the movie like with the Child’s Play one. So that is gonna give this one a slight edge for me. 7.5/10
Brick:
Pretty good one. Good parody, well performed. Funny lyrics, especially the second half. 8/10.

3. @Tito Orcheese
The Hobbit - ONE RING (One Direction 'One Thing' Parody)
Movie: The Hobbit, Music: One Direction-One Thing
Webble:
Finally a film I have seen! But I didnt know the song so went to listen, it was very 1D. This could have been better 6/10
cmvideo75:
OMG this is awful lol. I gave it a few points just for how awful it is and it does meet the criteria. But are they trying to take themselves seriously? They aren't going far enough to make it seem like this was intentionally bad. It seems like a bad idea gone even worse than imagined. 4/10
Goodcat:
This one is yet again just a slight step up from the first two. This time due to the video quality and the overall cinematics of it. I realize that LOTR lends itself to a much more cinematic experience than Child’s Play or Friday The 13th, but both of those were pretty low quality, visually. 8/10
Brick:
I had to go to Youtube to get the full description, glad I did because I never heard of this shit original song, lol, so I had to confirm it was a parody of something. Not judging based on the original however. But this was just OK. The Gollum part was probably the best of it. 6.5/10
Total: 24.5

4. @Eranys
ALL ABOUT THAT BASE PARODY
Movie: Star Wars, Music: Meghan Trainor- All About That Bass
Webble:
Being an 80s child I have seen the first three star wars films but not the new ones and I'm not sure I'm missing anything 5/10
cmvideo75:
This one is the winner. Funny song, stupid video, silly 'base' pun.... this is what I was looking for with a dumb movie parody. 10/10
Goodcat:
Another really solid one. Seeing that it was done by Nerdist, I would expect it to be high quality. Again, not as cinematic as the first LOTR, but this one wasn’t meant to be. The song was good, and the costuming was good as well. 7/10
Brick:
Solid. Funny lyrics, a good takedown of Star Wars silliness. “Blown up twice by the same Jedi” lol. Also, WOULD. 7.5/10.
Total: 29.5

5. @motives
"Stealing like a Hobbit"
Movie: Lord of the Rings, Music: Eminem-Lose Yourself, Cleaning out my closet, Stan
Webble:
Woop woop I knew this film and the song and I like both so thats a good start. This was actually really well done and I could hear and understand the lyrics. It was about 2 min too long though and I didnt love the mix of songs 8/10
cmvideo75:
Much better than the previous Hobbit parody just because this one is silly. The other one took itself way too serious. This guy clearly knows this is dumb and owns it. Better lyrics too. 7/10
Goodcat:
Alright, this one isn’t bad by any means. And maybe I’d score it a little higher if there wasn’t another LOTR submission. But to me it isn’t as high quality as the other one. And the other thing that I didn’t really like was it being a medley instead of just 1 whole song. Listening to 6 minutes was kind of a slog, NGL. 6/10
Brick:
Well produced; the Gollum was even disturbingly accurate. 7/10
Total: 28

6. @Los Lobos
Cheech & Chong - Born In East L.A.
Movie:: Born in East L.A., Music: Bruce Springsteen-Born in the USA
Webble:
I havent seen Cheech and Chong, I tried but I dont get the humour. I think if you are going to parody THE BOSS you have to be excellent at it and this was not 2/10
cmvideo75:
Hmmm... while I do enjoy me some Cheech and Chong, I think this entry got it backwards. This song existed before the movie did. The movie was made because of the popularity of the song, so it can't be a parody of the movie. They made a movie about a parody song. Not quite the same as what is being asked for here. Definitely a parody song but not a parody of a movie. 2/10
Goodcat:
It’s hard to go wrong with anything by Cheech & Chong. And this was obviously done way before parody songs became really popular. The actual music isn’t quite up to snuff, but again that’s kind of to be expected from so long ago. Overall, good pick. I like the premise as well, pretty funny set up. 7/10
Brick:
I think you missed the point entirely. There is no parody of a movie here. Plus, even that aside, this song is dogshit. 2/10
Total:13

7. @Hokit-over-Fedor
SLASHSTREET BOYS - “I'LL KILL YOU THAT WAY" (OFFICIAL BACKSTREET BOYS PARODY)
Movie: Halloween, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm St., Scream, Music: Backstreet Boys-I want it that way
Webble:
Another horror film! Amazingly this is one I have seen ( from behind a cushion ). I know the story though. I thought this was catchy funny and pretty well done 8/10
cmvideo75:
This one is pretty good... it parodies multiple movies/characters. And they put a lot of effort to also parody the music video. It's a little cheesy, but definitely fits here. Plus, the category technically asked for a parody of 'movies' and this is the only entry that actually covers more than one movie. So I'll give it a bonus point for that even if it was unintentional. 9/10
Goodcat: I was prepared to possibly not like this one as much just judging by the thumbnail. But dang if this one wasn’t great. Good video quality, good song, great costuming, and also a really good job of recreating most aspects of the actual music video. That’s one thing that the first LOTR didn’t do. But this one had the white room, the beach scene, etc that made the Backstreet Boys video iconic. 8.5/10
Brick:
These parody writers really got to work on their lyric game. I expect to at last have a chuckle or two. On this one, I got nuttin’. 5/10.
Total: 30.5

8. @Smartigan
Hanging Tree PARODY! Key of Awesome #94
Movie: Hunger Games, Music: Hanging Tree Song from Hunger games
Webble:
I like a lot of The Key of Awesome Stuff and I have seen The Hunger Games so again a good start. I didnt know this song so I had to look it up but it didnt really matter cuz this was funny 9/10
cmvideo75:
This is pretty bad but it fits. It also parodies a song from the movie it is parody-ing so that is a nice twist. But the song itself and the video is awful. 5/10
Goodcat:
This one is the first one that misses the mark for me, for multiple reasons. Firstly, the song. While this is a parody, what I really think of is taking a popular song and doing a parody of that song based on whatever. I’ve seen all the movies, but it took me a little while to recognize that it was actually an original song from one of the movies. If a parody song doesn’t automatically jump out as one I recognize, it’s hard to get into it. And then secondly, the subject matter was much less about the story of the hunger games and more about the studio trying to milk it for 4 movies instead of 3. Eh, this one just doesn’t do it for me. 4/10
Brick:
Singing so bad that it pissed me off…but then I got sober enough to realize that was kind of the point. Some pretty good lines too. It grew on me. Even a fappening reference, nice. Plus the low-key Asian racism at the end added some edge. 8/10.
Total: 26

9. @Holeydel
JURASSIC PARK 3 THE MUSICAL - Animated Parody Song
Movie: Jurassic Park 3, Music: Chvrches-Heaven/Hell

Webble: This started by telling me that the video is age restricted which intrigued me because Jurassic Park was a 12 over here. I really really dont like dance music and that put me off this, the parody part was good though 6/10
cmvideo75:
This was a funny entry. Could have been the winner based on the video but the song is so god awful I can go too high with this. But I do enjoy the Dinos casually eating everyone in the animation. And it recaps the movie pretty well, but in a funny way. I like this one. 8/10
Goodcat:
This one is also one of the lower scores I’m giving as well. I will say the subject matter is really clever and pretty funny. But this one suffers from the same thing as the last one, and that’s an obscure song. I’m familiar with Chvrches, but I had to look this one up to see how close they got the sound of it. I have to take points off for that. 6/10
Brick:
Above average. Not great, not terrible. 6/10.

Man, I got docked points cos a judge hadn't heard my song before. I didn't know that was part of the judging criteria. Also great pick FTM, congrats on round 1.

don't sweat it Del, if this were a breathalyzer test everyone woulda failed, even rhino

Webble: Being an 80s child I have seen the first three star wars films but not the new ones and I'm not sure I'm missing anything 5/10
Ok, webs, we've got beef now. You docked me points because you have no interest in watching the new Star Wars movies? This was not an exercise in selling you movie tickets. And aside from that, almost 100% of the jokes were centered around the original trilogy; there was like one reference to Darth Maul. There were some actually clever lines in there - the Alderaan reference? Fucking brilliant, mate.

This isn't on the level of The Great Buckey Betrayal, so there won't be a blood feud or anything.....but you better hope I don't draw your name in admin secret Santa this year.

I'm very disappointed in you.

Cheers. You had a good choice too. Ffs, I was arguing for fuck all yesterday thinking I was sure it was mine that they were talking about, but it ended up being the top 🙄 That was a closer round than I wanted thanks to Brick but Brick never gives me good marks like ever so I’m used to it. You were unlucky there with your entry.

Well we might have another admin beef depending on how this goes;

@Brick did you mean the parody was awful or the original Springsteen song was awful?
