Man City to face HUGE points deduction which will guarantee relegation - and more could come next season - but they won't be sent down to League Two, according to insiders

Journalist Oliver Holt revealed in his article for the British newspaper "Daily Mail", exclusive information about the punishment Manchester City are expected to face over financial breaches in the Premier League.

...

Holt added: "According to sources close to the course of the case, it is unlikely that Manchester City will face the catastrophic scenario of being expelled from the Premier League and forced to start again in the second division at the start of next season. Expelling the club would plunge both the Premier League and the English Football League into unprecedented chaos, and this step would also be harmful to both bodies themselves."

He continued: "It is believed that the Premier League is pushing for the punishment imposed on Manchester City to be announced before the result of the appeal lodged by the club is issued, an appeal that is unlikely to be decided before the end of January."

According to the journalist: "Information held by sources with knowledge of the case indicates that the most likely punishment is the deduction of a huge number of points, in a way that guarantees Manchester City's relegation to the First Division, alongside an enormous financial fine."

He concluded: "It is also possible that the punishment will include the deduction of further points, in a way that would effectively keep Manchester City in the First Division for at least an additional season. The First Division league would not be obliged to accept this punishment against one of its clubs, but it is likely to agree to it."

Arsenal stunned in Carabao Cup loss to fourth-tier Fleetwood Town

Premier League champions Arsenal were knocked out of the Carabao Cup after a stunning loss at fourth-tier Fleetwood Town following a penalty shootout Tuesday.

Bruno Guimarães had his spot kick saved by Jay Lynch before Fleetwood's teenage defender Conor Haughey lashed home an emphatic penalty to spark a pitch invasion at Highbury Stadium as the League Two side triumphed 5-3 in one of the greatest upsets in the competition's 66-year history.

It is the first time that the reigning Premier League champions have been knocked out of the League Cup by a fourth-tier side. Eighty-four positions separate the teams in the English football pyramid, and Fleetwood were +1500 to advance past Arsenal, according to DraftKings just before kickoff.

The match finished 1-1 in regulation.

"I don't think it will [sink in]," Fleetwood manager Matt Lawlor told Sky Sports. "I've just told the players to enjoy it and we've got a league game on Saturday. I didn't want to be the bearer of reality, but we've got a game.

"I couldn't believe it. The biggest night in the club's history in terms of opposition coming to town and we've managed to beat the champions somehow."

That the odds were tighter than some Floyd Mayweather fights says everything about Arsenal.

I just read that the Spanish Police is looking into this as a "murder investigation."
