Go read a Florida or L.A. police blotter and you would say the same thing about the U.S.
As terrible as this story is, it is a cherry picked "worst of the worst" story.
Am I saying that the U.S. is as bad as the Middle East in terms of women's rights? Absolutely not, we're lightyears ahead. That being said, using this story as an example is a poor one, because this is not condoned or typical behavior in that part of the world.
Imagine if the only news you got from the U.S. were stories like the one about the 3 women from Cleveland who were kidnapped, you'd think that the entire country was a sesspool.

What example would you have me use in the context of drawing attention to the Unfair and Sexist social Dynamic in this coutry? You said youself that we are Light-years ahead in womans rights. I probably would have waited to see what kind of punishment they recieved for their actions before pulling the, "all of them are animals who need to evolve and become more cultured" card.
If these guys all go to prison for 25 years, or are put to death... I think their justice system is catching up.
If these guys get $100 fines and a year of probation, that is when you throw up the thread calling their culture backwards.
You can't just cherrypick a heinous act by some crazies and say the entire country is backwards though. Well, you can, but no one will take you seriously. Again, it's like saying all Americans kidnap children, keep them hostage in their basement, rape them, beat them... all because you read the Cleveland story. It was a horrible story, but it isn't indicitative of American culture, it was an anomoly and that guy is going to be punished to the fullest extent of the law.
