I watched the premiere of TUF last night and it just feels really old, tired, and overdone. Everything from the fighters talking about their dreams of fighting in Mandalay Bay as they walk in to Dana White's recycled speech about "don't leave it to the judges...blah blah...biggest opportunity" and his likely manufactured disdain for Roy Nelson. It's so old. Even the fights, while some were good, seemed stale
We know what will happen with the rest of the season too. A few exciting fights, a few boring fights, a few REALLY lame pranks, maybe an injury with some drama and tears. This season may be ESPECIALLY boring because, honestly, Carwin and even Nelson are both pretty dull guys and there is no conflict. There's nothing to look forward to.
I have to give props to the UFC for last season because they were, at least, trying to change it up even though the LIVE format didn't really work out. Also Friday nights aren't helping at all either.
What can be done with TUF to make it interesting again? What would make you, as a fan, want to keep watching this show?
My suggestions:
1. Don't make the first fights happen in a GIANT empty arena where there is so much silence you can hear the beeping of the countdown clock. The TUF gym is perfect. Allow some more trainers or someone in there to make some noise so that it doesn't feel like a cage match is being hosted at the local public library.
2. Get EXCITING coaches. I know if Chael Sonnen was a TUF coach everyone here would be interested. Sonnen vs almost anyone would be fun. Also how about match ups like Diaz vs Kos, Jon Jones vs someone who doesn't like him. Or how about actual coaches like Greg Jackson vs Bas Rutten. (Bas Rutten would be GOLD).
3. Feature heavier weight classes more often. We all know that people are most interested in seeing large guys fight. The last HW TUF was the highest rated ever. I know it featured Bimbo Spice but I still want to see it. Be sure to get legit HWs too not just LWs that are FAT and out of shape.
I think this would be a good place to start. What do you all think?

I don't expect a whole lot outta tuf, therefore I'm never disappointed. I enjoy the show, and the main purpose for me is to introduce new names that I can potentially start to follow. That's all I expect, that's what I walk away with.

I think you've got some good ideas OP, however, most of them are common sense and it's a baffling as to why the producers wouldn't already be adhering to them. For instance, the likeable coaches suggestion  no kidding. As to how, who, or why Roy Nelson and Carwin got on there blows my mind. This is TV and people are there for the drama side of the UFC, so put on some dramatic characters lol.
I think they should cancel this show and come up with something completely fresh. I think a show pitting different camps against each other, or at least creating a rivalry, could do well for the UFC overall. Maybe show 5+ gyms throughout a 8 month season and get everyone emotionally involved and have it current. Dunno just brainstorming.

The thing that kills me the most is when the fight is on. If it starts at 40 after you know its going three rounds, 45 after two, 50 after there is a finish. That is the one thing I did like about the live format, you didn't know what was going to happen. I think they should change when the fight is on, maybe at the start, then show the drama, or middle and more drama. Always at the end becomes predicable.

the "reality" aspect just needs to be scrapped.
make the show just like Bellator's tourny with good fighter promos and "life" events between fights so we get to know them.
don't even need coaches

But when you put guys like Rampage and Rashad on there and they do create drama people b/tch and moan about that too.
We get interesting personalities, and fans say, it is suppose to be about the fighters, we get a season dedicated to fighters, and people say there is no coaching drama.
Sometimes you just can't make everyone happy.

I love how you've already seen the whole season in just one episode. Let it at least play out a few more episodes before you completely right it off, I mean you never know, maybe something completely out of the ordinary happens, maybe it doesn't. I'd at least watch a few more before I'd say "THIS s--- SUCKS!"
I always enjoy any fight that ends in a finish, and TUF definitely brings finishes. Right now there isn't as much mma as I'm used to so any fight is better than nothing.
Personally I've always been a fan of a silent arena while a fight is going on, hearing the sound of 4 oz gloves smashing the face and body is so awesome. I do agree with the heavier weight classes, I've been wanting to see a 205/265 for quite some time.
To be clear though I've really never been that big of fan of TUF anyhow, but a big fan of fights.

Did you read what else I said? They should cancel the show... 16 seasons of the same thing is a lot. Did you read Dave Meltzer's article on it? Lowest opening EVER. Probably going to be the lowest rated season ever too...
Someone teach me how to link lol...

I never thought I'd say this, but Bleacher Report made a good point
If the competition really did just result in one contract being given, it would be much better. Now guys know that they can act like jackasses, and they'll get a fight on the Finale against another contestant anyway. Make the competition have one winner, and only he gets a UFC contract immediately, and the competition would be a lot more intense.

Doesn't sound like they're going to change anything anytime soon. Plus there's still half a Planet that hasn't even seen this show.
