You guys think GSP need a fight at middleweight before he gets a crack at Anderson Silva? GSP is great at what he does but I don't want a guy to move up without getting tested to see if he can fair well at it instead foe just going straight up to the top guy and possibly getting tooled the whole fight. So if he is to have a fight at middleweight who should it be against???

you wouldn't, he'd out strike Maia and win the fight by decision or tko.
I voted f--- that. He's the reigning champion at 170 and if (when) he beats shields, he'll have defeated a former 185 champion. I don't think he necessarily needs to prove himself, he's already done enough to deserve the shot.

I'd like to see him against a good striker, with decent tdd, Belfort would be a nice fight. We'll also see just how ready he is to fight AS.

I think stylistcly GSp would do really bad against Maia. Maia is big himself but also GSP taking him down would be suicide

No, I would, Demian maia would get him in the thai clich and climb up GSP for an armbar.
How can you make such positive assessments of what you think would happen in my opinion?

I voted Paul Harris, I mean thats the scariest guy to fight at 185 more than Maia in my opinion

:lol: Why would GSP do anything but strike and easily avoid going to the ground with Maia?
I voted for the last option. The whole point of GSP moving up is for this fight.

this would be a good way to see how he handles the step up in size.

I would vote that they do the silva GSP fight now and not take any chances on either guy losing or getting injured. Let Silva fight Belfort and then try to schedule the fight asap. Shields can take his beating later. You gotta strike while the iron's hot.

Nah man, I dont want a guy thats untested in a area he has never fought in regardless of his name. If George gets his *** whipped then you know his stock will drop and then he's gonna get critizied for moving up when he knows his place is at 170. So for this fight to make sense GSP has to fight a solid guy at the weight to either hype the fight more or get him comfortable at fighting at the weight.

working in the gym putting on 10-15 lbs of muscle will be a gradual thing, and with his work-rate at practice, he'll have no problem adapting to carrying/working with the extra weight. the question is will his skills make the transition with him, and i think the answer is yes.
as long as he's working, sparring and rolling, along with work on keeping his explosiveness, it'll just be a bigger version of gsp....this is where his p2p #1 or #2 ranking really means something.
i say he'd be ready to go without a warm-up.

I would say he need to go straight to Anderson. Why? Simply because if he loses to a middle-class Middleweight that will have everybody like "what the f---?"
If he does get a fight before Anderson, "Rush" needs to face someone not quite at the top, like a Okami, Marquardt or Wanderlei, but someone that has similar skills to him. I would put him against Rousimar Palhares. This would be a very intriguing fight that I think Palhares could definetly win.
