Dave Meltzer reported a few days ago that UFC 226 did a little under 400k. Not a terrible number compared to other UFC events but for a super fight of the magnitude it was and the crown event during the UFC Fight Week you can be sure they wanted a bigger number.

Let's see how this year stacks up to 2017 and even 2016, so far.
The biggest event in 2017 was UFC 217: Bisping vs GSP. It did 875k.
So far this year the biggest event is UFC 226 with 380k (some say 220 did 380k so it might officially be the biggest if you could look at the real numbers).
2016 Total PPV = 8.21 million sales
2017 Total PPV = 3.71 million sales
2018 Numbers:
UFC 220: 350k (miocic vs ngannou)
UFC 221: 130k (romero vs rockhold)
UFC 222: 200k (cyborg vs kunitskaya)
UFC 223: 280k (khabib vs iaquinta)
UFC 224: 85k (nunes vs pennington)
UFC 225: 250k (whittaker vs romero 2)
UFC 226: 380k (miocic vs cormier)
Total sales after 6 events: 1.675 million sales
Halfway in and with 6 events left, do you think they can top 3.71 million from last year?

If Conor-Khabib happens: without a doubt, yes. If not close. But Really: I don't care.

I thought this was a pretty positive thread myself.
But numbers are what dictates the future of this sport, you be a fool to discard it.

I like that Nunes/Pennington did so low.

Me too, there's only certain lesbies I'd pay to see wrestle.

Why MMA fans hang so hard on PPV numbers is beyond me. In the OP it shows how 2016 sold more ppv then 2017 regardless of the fact that 2017 was the highest earnings year for the UFC.
Why do people think that Conor vs anybody not named brock lesnar or floyd mayweather does close to 2 million ppv buys in the UFC ?

I completely agree with your first part.
The 2nd question is curious. He did do "close to 2 million ppv buys in the UFC" vs Nate Diaz. I think it's reasonable that in a title fight with the proper opponent (i.e. one who can sell a fight or will try to sell a fight) that 2 million is possible.

1.6 is a ways off 2.0 and that was with the proper opponent that held the only win against connor in the UFC. Mma is a fringe sport at best.

1.6 is closer to 2 than 1. Obviously this depends on perspective. He had the correct opponent but no title attached. I'm not saying it's any type of certainty but 2M under the right circumstances is most definitely possible.

They need cyborg to fight more. 200k is pretty good.

CM was taking pics at the world cup with Russian President Vladimir. I knew he was popular but I think his fame has reached an all time high. If he fights again especially in Russia it will do over 2 million buys. which is 4x that if ufc 226.

it wont do 2 million buys if its in russia...the time difference would be a killer and russians dont take well to ppv's...khabib even said they'd need to lower the ppv price if they did go to russia

Putin is a big judo guy and very into MMA. Conor wants to tweak Khabib. Not that surprising of a meeting.
Also, I thought they only sold the PPVs in North America. Why would the event being in Russia matter?

I forgot the time difference. If they did a tour in Russia and CM does his antics I believe lots of Russians will watch. Basically thousands of people that don’t normally follow mma. More of a Russian pride thing

Of course they do, right now the PPV is fine, but if at some point would drop into Bellator numbers they would have to manage fighters differently and pay differently, as well as schedule less events, which would change many aspects of the sport.
