A once proud LHW Division may be in jeopardy

Back to the original subject a bit. These two should have to fight. Its a sport, and people that played in the NFL last year with their best friend get traded and smash him good the next year. Its just part of the job. I hate it when two fighters just wont fight one another, this is just stupid. Be a sportsman and compete. The way the sport is splitting up right now these top level fighters are going to have to get over themselves and fight people with the same level of skill regardless of whos friends with who. Besides, some of the best fights we have seen have been between good friends.

With the Dragon and the Spider in the same division, it's not gonna take long before this division will be decimated with no clear contender for the belt. It's gonna suck for everyone.

Anderson still has to defend his MW title. He isn't going full time to LHW. That fight was booked, because Anderson needed to be pushed, and needed someone who would actually try to fight him.
Sadly, "try" is about the only word that could be used to describe what happened. I would be more concerned with Lil' Nog being in the division, then Anderson.

Silva doesn't think Hendo is worthy of the title shot yet until he defeats the winner of nate/maia and I totally agree. But now he's left running loose in the LHW division picking off potential title contenders.
As a fan, I'm quite amused by the predicament Silva put the UFC in. I just wanted to start this topic to stir up some debate because I really want to see the Dragon and the Spider showdown...after all, at the end of the day, this is just a sport and nothing personal. If the fans don't talk about it, then this fight will definately not happen.

At the end of the day, if the boss wants it to happen, it'll happen.
But, say that it doesn't happen, I can look into this. Anderson wouldn't fight Lyoto for a couple of reasons:
1. Anderson and Lyoto are like brothers, they don't want to fight each other. Money isn't the issue here.
2. Anderson doesn't want a title shot at LHW. It serves him no purpose
3. ONly 3 fights left on his contract. Dana doesn't want 1 title to remain vacant when Anderson leaves, why leave the chance at 2 titles?

you really expect Anderson to leave at the end of that contract? I can't say I see that happening. He is all about that belt, and just walking away from that belt isn't something many men could do. I really think he wants to be beat in a lot of ways. He seems like the type that is looking for enough challenge to know his limit. He might just have to fight his brother to find that challenge. Lets see if Lyoto stays the big dog a while. He is young in this thing and needs a few more test before i'm willing to say he is unbeatable.

I do, and for the simple reason is, he doesn't have a challenge at MW, and he won't fight Machida or Lil' Nog at LHW. That, and he has other interests that he would like to persue outside of the UFC. He wants to box RJJ, and after that, who knows, maybe he comes back, maybe not.
He has stated time and time again, that he wants to retire, and train people full time. Could this be the last we see of Anderson in a UFC event (after his final fights)? I dont think so. But it could be nearing the end of "The years of the Spider".

This is another thing that gets to me a little. I have a brother a few years younger then I am. As kids we had fights over toys, and everyone does. Those were anger. As we grew up we started to study different arts. He is training to be a police officier so he has to do alot of grappling and stand up stuff, and I love the ground stuff in general. So we teach each other, sign up for the classes together, and regularly fight. Not spar, we will put on gloves and fight. No problem for me. I'm not TRYING to hurt him, but I am trying to win. All these people could do that same thing. Winning doen't mean you have to hurt the guy. You might KO him, but that isn't going to ruin your week for sure, much less your career.

I agree with the OP in that I would love to selfishly bask in the excitement that would be a Silva vs Machida match up. Potentially the two best MMA fighters of this generation, two men seemingly untouchable figuratively and literally in the cage. I could even understand a seven round fight, heck nine rounds might not satiated my wanting to see these two specimen of human evolution match up across the octagon from one another.
But alas I understand the principles they stand behind and while I might not want their response, I can and do respect it. The best in the world deserve this respect from the fans, these men have most definitely earned it.

While I will have to respectfully disagree, if you did'nt want to go and fight your friends and have comradery maybe a team sport that does'nt involve contact maybe better suited for that mentality.
However, these men are fighters, they should have respect for everyone else on the ladder if their names come up they go at it not only for respect of the sport they both claim to honor but for respect of the rest of the division that has to go out and take them on while they get to work as gate-keepers for one another.
Nate Marquardt in his latest interview clearly stated that he too won't fight his teamates and that the UFC can't make friends fight each other.
I wonder if he can stand his ground when the big boss drops the hammer and starts pitting friends vs. friends. Dana and the fertitta's have been very vocal as of late regarding this subject and their discontent. this is going to become a hot topic and examples are going to be made, fists are gonna fly and bags are going to be packed.
Who do you think can stand their ground and who will be sent packing?

Well I can see Gatekeepers not wanting to fight each other but when its for a title I think they should have to when theres no better match ups (AS vs. Machida). This ain't The Ultimate Fighting Teams.
This sort of thing could kill this kind of sport all together then. If people just refuse to fight people they know, then sooner or later you will know everyone in the sport well enough to want to stay out of the ring with them. Its a sport, be sportsman and play the game with the best of the best. If you aren't willing to do that, regardless of who the best is, you might want to find another job. The job is to fight the person in front of you within a list of rules and regulations. If I refuse to do my job I get fired... might be that time. I would rather see people fired them watch them run away from a good fight because they are friends.

:lol: :lol: :lol: That gave me a good laugh cause it's so true. You got Jon Jones now in the jackson camp along with Evans, Nate, Jardine, Stevenson, GSP and who knows who else. The thing is if you want to be the best, you gotta train with the best and that include camps.
Jeez...at this rate, you might as well throw weight classes and titles out the window and just make training camp VS. training camp matches. :lol:, if that happens, I'm taking Blackhouse.

Top tier fighters will be able to hold their ground - what is the UFC going to do, cut them so Strikeforce can sign them? Anybody below the top tier is going to have serious choices to make because there is a shot that they could just be dropped.

Anderson, Lyoto, and Lil' Nog are 3 that would never get the cut. Dana White would be taking a HUGE risk in doing that, giving SF an oppertunity of a lifetime to sign any 1 of those guys.
But, the low and mid level guys will get their papers, and wind up somewhere else.
