I'm not going to post the article from another MMA site but this fight seems to be a done deal in October. The UFC is holding 2 cards in October and this will be on one of them.
Do you think Florian deserves a title shot and after watching his last fight do you think he will win? I say yes to both questions.
I was critical of Mendes for taking a fight in August and giving up his title shot but maybe that decision had been made (partially by the UFC). All speculation, but maybe they hoped Florian won his last fight and would be a big name to challenge for the title. Maybe Mendes was told to fight one last (very winnable) fight and you are next in line. I don't know, what do you think?

Why not, if it's part of the conversation. We need a source.

The last few weeks have seen a lot of strange stuff coming from the UFC featherweight division. After featherweight champion Jose Aldo defeated Mark Hominick at UFC 129, Dana White made it clear that Aldo's next defense would "likely" be against Chad Mendes at UFC 133 on August 6th. No contract was ever signed, and Aldo (through Ed Soares) ended up turning down that fight for a few different reasons. Mendes decided to stay on the card, and will fight Rani Yayha. And it seems he's lost his title shot as a result of all this.
As we all know, Kenny Florian dropped to featherweight and defeated Diego Nunes at UFC 131. After the card, Mr. White now proclaimed Florian to be the guy who "more than likely" gets to fight Aldo now. And today, Aldo all but confirmed that to be the case in an interview on SenseiSporTV in Brazil (via ESPN):
"I think it’ll be a tough fight. I don’t doubt that," said Aldo of his matchup with the former UFC lightweight title challenger. "Florian’s name and reputation in the U.S. will make this fight marketable, so I think he’ll be my next opponent, probably in October."
There are two cards in October, UFC 136 in Houston on October 8th, and UFC 137 in Las Vegas on October 29th. With a welterweight title fight scheduled between Georges St. Pierre and Nick Diaz for UFC 137 and the rumors of Cain Velasquez not being ready to defend his heavyweight title in Houston, the logical date for Florian/Aldo would be October 8th. Will it go down that way? Guess we'll find out soon enough.

I'm not good at posting articles but that was the article you were asking for from BE. It shouldn't look like but whatever. There it is.

Jose Aldo Expects to Defend Title Against Kenny Florian in October

I got Aldo. Nunes cracked Kenny a couple of times. Does Aldo have longer reach than Nunes? Because I feel like Kenny's reach was the deciding factor in his last fight. I think if Aldo can get in where Nunes couldn't, then it's good night Kenny.

after kenny loses he should go to MW and try to get yet ANOTHER title shot to add to his list of weight classes and title contender list. Seriously what is he hoping for by switching weight all the time? Is he trying to find which champion he can actually beat?

nothing will make me happier than seeing Kenny get Ko'd with a flying knee.
Don't get me wrong I like the guy especially on mma live - very smart but lately he is just annoying as hell.

kenny is my favorite fighter, his gameplan is going to have to be the same one he used against BJ penn,
try to outwrestle aldo. We have seen aldo gas in later rounds and he is not that good off of his back.
but nunes knocked kenny down and I think Aldo will have enough power to finish him off
kennys last fight IMO

Has anyone heard these rumors? I'm attending UFC 136 in Houston so I'm hoping for Cain/JDS. I hadn't seen anything about Cain not being ready.

Yeah I agree, I hate it when people just switch and because of there name they get the shot. I dont think hes quite proven himself due to one fight with Aldos teamate who clearly isnt as good as the Champ.
I would have liked to seen him face Mark Hominick or someone else that is at the top before getting the title shot.
Reasons why there should be two matches before title shot...
1.If you switch weight classes (Kenflo)
2. If you lose to the champ, or get immediate rematch, then you should wait at least 2 times!
3. Come from another Organization(sf to ufc)

I like both fighters but I kinda hope Kenflo wins just based on pure sentimentality.

Yah, lol messed that up...
Reasons.
1. People have been waiting in line(mendes).
2. You were fighting lower tier competition(diaz).
3. Can you switch weight classes and do 5 rounds ina main event now that there championship rounds. Yes Kenflo probably can, but I just think out of respect to the division that 2 wins isnt much to ask for.
If your the best 2 matches against future challengers shouldnt be a problem

I see what you're saying about the Jose Aldo vs. Chad Mendes situation, but in all fairness to Kenny Florian, Chad Mendes did choose to stay active and take on a different opponent as opposed to waiting for his title fight against Jose Aldo, which I think is an intelligent idea, so that when he does face whomever the champion will be at the time he recieves another title shot, he will be coming into the match the most active fighter he can be. So now that Chad Mendes already has another fight booked, Kenny Florian has now been chosen to jump Chad Mendes in line and has accepted the title shot against Jose Aldo in this predicament. And now that Hatsu Hioki is in the mix, I wouldn't mind seeing Hatsu Hioki vs. Chad Mendes for the title shot against the winner of Jose Aldo vs. Kenny Florian in the future. Leaving Diego Nunes a possibility to fight against Mark Hominick which would also be another entertaining fight for the UFC and us MMA fans.

Oh no I am fine with Florian, he has the reputation to be able to do this, but still one more fight wouldnt hurt him, but I guess this is a great thing for Kenflo, because he looked miserable in videos I watched of him training, and "eating or the lack there of" He gets to go ahead and fight and get the title shot instead of starving for 2 more training camps.
His advantage is that he just fought an incredibly quick striker, but two totally different strikers. Also Aldos TDD is 3x as good as Nunes I think.
I agree with what you said thou...I was just giving an example really, but its hard to follow formulas when everyone schedule is pre-booked.

Nunes cracked Kenny exactly twice and other than those shots did almost nothing. That being said I don't think Florian is going to stand and trade with Aldo - he's going to grind him down against the cage and take him to the mat. Aldo better have his cardio in top shape for this fight.

I didn't realize that Kenny Florian has a 74" reach, and compared to Jose Aldo's 70" reach, Florian could really make utilization of the jab, like he does so well, to get the advantage in the striking game against Jose Aldo, stay at a distance of Aldo's strikes, and perfectly time the moments where his takedown will be most effective on Aldo. Kenny Florian does have that advantage over Jose Aldo, but he would have to fight perfectly to pull it off against Jose Aldo, even with that significant 4" reach advantage, and the brazilian juijitsu advantage that he has over Aldo.
Diego Nunes' reach is 67" by the way.
I do think the strategy of grinding out a victory against Jose Aldo that MDH suggested would play in Kenny Florian's favor as well though. Kenny Florian does have options in this fight, and he could possibly pull it off.

Aldo uses punching strikes more defensively, and kicking is more of his attacking creole...
