The altitude cheats us out of great fights.

The elevation for Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico is only 1,770 ft., that's more like it.

What? I thought Cain/Werdum, Ticea/Hill and Rosa/Rodreguiz were damn fun. Eddie/Gil was not as great as it could have been, but I still enjoyed it.

I think Cain running into Werdum''s fists and eating knees drained him as much as the elevation. He got BEAT UP and looked the fresher guy headed to the 2nd.

Note the time of the post... right after the Melenez fight (and pre-Werdum win).
Ugh. I was waiting for this for YEARS!
And those others weren't great either.

Well, at the press conference Dana is loving Mexico City. He said they are definitely coming back and the Nov. 21st event will be in Monterey, Mexico. So the question is do you bring Cain back?

Werdum, the only guy to have his camp at high elevation (I think)... good for him.

Mexico is going to start taking events away from Brazil. I think in 2016 they'll get 3 or 4. Those fans went absolutely crazy and there are enough guys with Mexican heritage or even Central American to fill up these cards. Plus they do have a few Mexican born guys that are promising like Rodriguez, Benitez, and Erik Perez.

I definitely think so. Something is telling me that Cain's next fight is going to be versus Browne or Hunt. Either would be perfect in Monterey. That's 5 months away - perfect timing.

I don't agree that there shouldn't be anymore events in Mexico, but I do agree that we got a lil cheated of stellar fights yesterday. All the fighter's gameplan was based on holding back to save their gas tank in an attempt to compensate for the high elevation. From what I saw, everybody fought at 50% yesterday. Perfect example was Melendez vs. Alvarez. Guarantee you had that fight been in the US, we woulda seen the scrap that we all anticipated. What're ya gonna do right?

I think fighters should prepare better to fight in Mexico rather than "no more Mexico" events. Take some f---ing notes from Werdum. People got schooled on how to train for elevation from a HW last night.
We don't get "ALRIGHT, NO MORE DENVER CARDS" threads

Werdum trained there for what, something like 30 days? And Cain came in for only, IIRC, 8 or so? If Cain had trained there as long as Werdum, the fight would have been more competitive IMO. But who can say. Cain's knee problems and his being out for so long may have hampered him anyways.

And I'm not trying to make excuses for Cain, either. Werdum came in prepared and put it to Cain like nobody I've seen before. All credit to him for his performance. I guess they'll do Werdum/JDS next?

Having lived at altitude on several occasions in my life, let me tell you how much of a drain it is. And it takes more than 2 weeks to acclimatize.
My first time, I went from sea level to 5,400 ft. I was tired as hell for nearly two weeks. Odd nosebleed. Sleeping 10-12 hours no problem. Naps. Plus it'd take me about 3-4 beers to get gooned, too. It doesn't matter if you're in great shape or not, your body just ain't fuckn used to it. After two weeks, I wasn't 100%, but I stopped feeling fatigued. But it as nearly 7 weeks before my 10km times got close to what they used to be. (The only road I could run on was about 4km downhill and about 700m of vert, hit the valley floor run for about a km, then turn around and head back uphill. Killer run, always finishing uphill.)
The bonus? Going on vacation at lower altitudes or sea level. I was a machine - so much more oxygen.
Basically, the idea these guys were holding back, kinda not true. They were most likely giving it everything they had.

Even yearly 1 week visits to Denver for me were no picnic.
