com fontes próximas à situação, a luta não vai valer o cinturão e há um impasse sobre qual peso e a quantidade de rounds.
Na quinta-feira, mesmo após falar da decepção pela situação envolvendo Jones, Cormier já havia manifestado a intenção de continuar no card, caso o Ultimate encontrasse alguém disposto a enfrentá-lo. Após conversar com a imprensa, o atleta da AKA continuou o processo de perda de peso, na esperança de ainda lutar e receber sua bolsa.
Se o combate for realizado no peso-meio-pesado, esta não será a primeira vez que Anderson Silva vai lutar na categoria de cima da que o consagrou. O brasileiro, que vem de derrota para Michael Bisping em fevereiro, já lutou na divisão contra Stephan Bonnar, em 2012, contra Forrest Griffin, no UFC 101, e contra James Irwin, em 2008. Aos 41 anos, Spider tem um cartel de 33 vitórias, sete derrotas e uma luta sem resultado e é apontado por muitos como um dos melhores lutadores de todos os tempos. Já Cormier tem 37 anos e um cartel de 17 triunfos e um revés. O americano não luta desde outubro do ano passado, quando venceu Alexander Gustafsson na decisão dividida.
