It appears as though UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva may be forced to the sidelines until sometime in 2010 due to elbow surgery.
According to a recent report from MMA Live, the surgery will render Silva unable to compete throughout the duration of this year.
As of this time it is unknown as to when the injury occurred as there was no news of an injury following his recent first round demolition of Forrest Griffin during UFC 101 on August 8, and “The Spider” had reportedly taken some time off following the victory.
It now appears as though both Nate Marquardt and Dan Henderson will have to wait it out in order to have their opportunities at championship redemption, or perhaps a bout between the two would make sense in the near future.

sucks, but I guess Hendo vs Marquardt will happen now

Silva was not as strong as he is now. He was fighting with Chute Box(not a good camp for him) and he lacked power and accuracy behind his strikes. After he left Pride he got WAY better....he even got his BJJ blk-belt from Noguiera gained muscle strength and now is considered to be one of the best fighters in the WORLD. a "scaphoid fracture" would I feel pain on the top and bottom of my hand? I have found a diagram of a "scaphoid fracture" and that would be the area he feel pain. What would be the healing process? To just demobilize the use of his hand? How long would you think it will take to heal? When he moves his hand it hurts most when he bends it upward also if I move it inward towards the thumb. When he moves it down or towards the small finger it is not that bad. Should he keep using Bengay and or Ice?

Hendo said either he fights Silva or he moves up. Nothing else interests him in MW. I can't blame him for not trusting he will get a title shot if he wins against Marquart.

he did say that, but if he beats Nate there would be no doubt that he would get a title fight against Anderson, if he fights at 205 who's he gonna fight? he would have to beat more fighters at 205 to get a title shot than he would at 185. At 205 he would have to beat Rampage, Rashad etc, where at 185 he would just have to win 1 fight to get a title shot

I don't like the idea of the Nate/Hendo fight. As shallow as the 185 division is, I'd hate for two legit contenders fight each other instead of two quality championship bouts. Playing the "if I were in charge" game, I would have Hendo go up to 205 for a reasonably interesting fight and have Nat fight Okami (assuming that's not too much of a layoff, waiting for after the Okami/Sonnen fight). At least that would give Okami a real opportunity for a rematch with Silva, as he would be a reasonable 2nd contender.

IMO Hendo should be able to get a shot at 205 after one contender fight. Hendo vs Lil Nog for the win!

He's getting a Guyver elbow blade installed in order to pursue a career of crime fighting when his contract runs out.

I think he wouldnt have a very hard road to a title shot at 205. Maybe one win. Not too many contenders, only solid contender is Rampage.

If Hendo fights Marquardt and Vitor lights up Franklin, I can see Dana giving the first title shot to Vitor.

dont people understand they already had title shots and got demolished via their own strengths. mismatches and rematches of blowouts are not good championship fights. only one of them shhould get that fight. gsp super fight should be next since both divisions are unable to produce quality matchups right now.

exactly, people tend to forget that both of them alredy had title shots and got pounded big time, is so hard to try to explain this to some members here they dont understand that both of them are not earning his REMATCH specially dan henderson, at least nate knows this and understand but dan henderson with all this trash talk and with his lates comments and actions definity is not earning fans and a rematch for him would be poinless since he is not earning that just yet, a win against nate definity will put him in the mix as the number one contender

I wouldn't say Dan got pounded big time. In a fight that lasted two fights and where he won the first, that's not getting "pounded big time". Yes, he lost, but how many fights does he have to win to warrant another shot? Especially for someone like Dan Henderson - guys with similar pasts tend to get rematch fights quickly (i.e., Couture).

A Hendo/Marquart fight intrests me more than any of the 2 rematches. If Hendo goes back to 205 he will have to win a few there before geting a shot so I dont see a real point to that.I like Hendo but I dont see why he should get the shot when he and Marq have both already tried and failed. i think Marquart has been the more impressive of the 2 since their title shots. I just wish a Hendo/Nate fight was a 5 rounder.
