Well according to Anderson Silva anyway.
PDL – It looks like your dreamed-of bout with boxer Roy Jones, which would mark your retirement, may really happen. Is that true?
AS – After my contract with the UFC ends and end my career in MMA, I intend to have a boxing match with Roy Jones. That’s something that’s already been arranged, it’s all practically a done deal. Now I just have to wait and see.

Well, RJJ takes it easy if it goes down. But as the lines i saw, I'll be betting for Anderson at +1000. Thoughts?

Doesn't his UFC contract automatically extend while he is champion? He won't get out of it unless he loses.
The other option is to retire, but then I think there's a one year no-compete clause, which would surely block this fight from happening.
In other words, "almost official" is a huge stretch.

I'm not sure the no compete clause would be triggered since boxing is a different sport from MMA.

So the only way out is to lose a fight. Better go throw some money on Leites.

Why does he want to fight Roy so bad? Because its one of his favorite boxers/fighters? I've seen an Anderson Silva boxing match, and judging by that fight I'm not too confident that he can take Jones (even though he won the fight that I saw). :?
He should challenge Roy Jones Jr. to a "stand up fight" (as in muay thai vs boxing) with MMA gloves in a ring.

why?? simple, because probably on that fight, he will make muuucho more than what he made in his last 10 UFC fights... but this should not happen, RJJ will embarrase him in front of millions of ppl, thus embarrasing MMA too. Now more than ever I hope he loses his last 4 fights, then he can go fight who ever he wants in a boxing match.

It shouldn't be embarrassing or shocking if he looses to Roy Jones Jr. Everyone should know that damn near all MMA fighters will lose to top tier pro boxers. Just like damn near all pro boxers will lose an MMA fight.

Slow down there buddy. While AS is a good boxer, Roy Jones does it every day and has done it professionally for many years. Theres a good chance that AS gets tooled here!

I didnt mean that will be embarrasing the loss, I mean RJJ will really embarrase him, tool him, make him look like an amateur or whatever you wanna call it... In boxing terms, AS is like miles away from RJJ... AS needs to come back to planet earth, he'll get kill....

Roy Jones would hurt Silva in a straight up Boxing match.

i'd pay to watch this fight. i think RJJ takes it but AS will be able to hold his own i think. we'll see. obv if this is his dream he's been training for it and will be training for it in the future. i do see the UFC pulling a no compete clause or somthin on him for a while so it will be a long time before it happens. HUUUUUGE payday for AS though.

When this was first announced, Silva had 6 fights left and was going to fight every 2 months and retire when he was 35... he has fought once since then and still has quite a few fights left on his contract... this is still a loooong time away.

I could see him winning against Leites and then fighting again at UFC 100 if he's uninjured...if he maintains good health he could finish up is contract by early next year.

That's what they were saying last year about him finishing his career early this year. It's not like AS was hurt in the match with Cote waaay back in October - I was hoping for a quick turn around after that fight but it didn't happen... I wonder if it's the UFC that is dragging their feet to prolong his career with them?

I feel bad for Anderson. He doesnt see how big of a waste of time this is.
Jones is the ultimate pitter patter boxer. Runs more than Carl Lewis in there. He will jab and move the whole fight and wont engage.

AS's agent is partly to blame. I think they've been picking their shows - AS (or his agent) didn't want to fight in the UK, because it's not as lucrative for the fighter. There was an article posted about it somewhere, but alas, I don't recall the thread (it had to do with BJ Penn, so it could be one of a hundred).
I'd love to see more of AS, but not as far as boxing a boxing champion. that's high hopes right there. Mind you, if AS did better than expected, then he might do more for MMA than not. It just seems like a bad idea, though.

You have to figure AS is a very humble and realistic guy, he wouldn't go into this fight unprepared. Honestly I think he'd accidently knee him in the face or something and get DQ'ed though, the impulse would be too quick to fight back
