A bout between Anthony Johnson (7-2 MMA, 4-2 UFC) and fellow welterweight Yoshiyuki Yoshida (11-3 MMA, 2-1 UFC) will take place in October at UFC 104.
A source close to the negotiations today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) verbal agreements are in place and bout agreements are in the process of being finalized.
UFC 104, which features a main event between UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida and challenger Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, takes place Oct. 24 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and airs on pay-per-view.
Johnson, who's posted back-to-back knockout victories over Luigi Fioravanti and Kevin Burns in his two most recent fights, had been slated to fight hard-hitting Matt Brown at The Ultimate Fighter 9 Finale in June. However, Johnson suffered a knee injury prior to the bout and was forced off the card.
Upon his return, the former JUCO national wrestling champion (Lassen Community College) will go for his fourth win in five fights and his fifth consecutive win via knockout.
However, he faces an opponent who's been knocked out just once, to Josh Koscheck in brutal fashion at UFC Fight Night 16 in December. Yoshida rebounded from the loss (his first in the UFC and his first in three years) with a first-round submission victory over Brandon Wolff at UFC 98. Yoshida is now 10-1 in his past 11 fights, and all 10 victories have come via stoppage (six knockouts, three submissions and a disqualification).
It's not known at the time if the Johnson vs. Yoshida bout will earn a spot on the night's televised main card.

Champ Lyoto Machida vs. Mauricio "Shogun" Rua (for light-heavyweight title)*
Shane Carwin vs. Cain Velasquez*
Anthony Johnson vs. Yoshiyuki Yoshida*
Ryan Bader vs. Eric Schafer*
Patrick Barry vs. Antoni Hardonk*
Razak Al-Hassan vs. Kyle Kingsbury*
looks pretty nice!

I don't think Yoshida has the size to control Johnson, which means he will be in danger throughout the fight. I also don't think Yoshida has the standup to keep Johnson on his heels. I think an AJ KO is the most likely outcome.

Yoshida will definitely want to control Johnson on the ground. Yoshida is a handful!

You aint kiddin man!
If this was Dallas I wouldn't miss it.
THey don't like to hook TX up very much. The Houston fight was only great because of the huge upset of Serra over St. Pierre other than that it was at best a mediocre card. They need to get a good one down here dammit!

AJ with a KO in Round 1. Man if Yoshida couldnt stand with Kos he's in toruble here. Specially with Johnson coming off that quick one sided win over his girlfriend last week. ( too soon?
)

Anthony Johnson by KO/TKO. Yoshida has great skills, but Johnson gets better and better every time. I see him going along way in the UFC. Yoshida definitely needs to fight toughter opponents, his two UFC wins were against tomato cans.

I've never really cared for Gonzaga. He's good though.

If yoshida can get AJ to the ground and control him it should be quick night for rumble and end in submission win for yoshida but i think johnson can keep it standing and out box him also he hits hard just like koscheck did

haha I know I did. The first MMA bet I ever placed was Gabe Gonazga over Randy Couture, almost talked a co-worker into it too.

Definitly going to UFC 104 when i get back from Basic training with out a doubt. BUT i dont want to see Bader fight. This will be one of my last few UFC since im going to be stationed and I just want to see some stand up fights and not really any wreslting wars.
But on the other hand this fight is going to be another stand up one. I see AJ winning but You cant overlook Yoshida at all he is no push over.

Is Matt Brown still out??
Johnson/Brown would be a more interesting fight to me. If Koscheck KTFO Yoshida, and Johnson is bigger with better striking, it's gonna be an ugly night for Yoshida.

I can so picture this ending in the first 4 minutes by headkick. Not a good matchup for yoshi

I could be wrong, but i think people put to much stock in the Koscheck fight. That was his first loss in a long time and sh*t happens. It's the same as when Kos got ko'd, you can't put that much stock into a single knockout. but I do think this is a better fight than Matt Brown.
