G Sots is riding a 7 fight win streak, Miller is on a 6 fight win streak and they decide to give Guida the WEC lw champ who is on a 3 fight win streak against gurgerty, Dos Anjos and Gomi yeh that makes all the sense in the world.

As other people have said I don't think Guida will get the shot if he wins. Bisping was promised a title shot if he beat Henderson and even after Hendo scored one of the greatest KO's of all-time he wasn't given the shot (which I think played a BIG part in him jumping ship to SF).
I think Pettis will get the shot if he wins as he was promised it beforehand. If Guida wins my money is on G-Sot getting the shot if he gets past Siver.

Yeah im not saying he will get the next shot I am saying he might, Like i said stranger things have happened when it comes to giving undeserving fighters title shots. Either way Pettis is the no 1 contender as he is next in line for the title shot, so theoretically if Guida wins he skyrockets himself up the LW ladder and could be given a shot considering how long Guida has been around and has yet to fight for the title in the UFC.
Sots and Miller and left out in the cold until all this mess is cleared up, they have to wait for Edgar/Maynard 3 then they have to wait for Pettis/Guida then they have to wait for Pettis/Edgar/Maynard to fight before they even get there chance and who knows what injuries will take place during these fights which could delay things even further possibly until 2012. So the easy answer in this case is to match up Pettis with either Sots or Miller after there fights to determine who is the true no 1 contender to fight for the title.

Lol, yep, because all the existing UFC Featherweights and Bantamweights are far superior to the ones that came in from the WEC.

You guys act like all "WE" do at RoufusSport is train kick boxing. Fact is our BJJ/Wrestling program is much larger atm than kick boxing. Believe it or not, some people dont like getting punched in the face and train more grappling. Our team is getting much better each practice.
You guys act like Pettis is training with bums. Dont forget that we have a slew of UFC fighters that he trains with. Fact is Clay doesnt have the training partners to mimic Pettis. Pettis has a ton of wrestlers who are good at striking to mimic Guida.

I Don't know where you read anything about all the camp has is standup.What i was saying is that his standup is so good that Clay wont be able to just shoot in like he does in other fights.I am well aware the camp is well rounded.Since we have seen Pettis and others win by much more then just standup.I think Showtime is more rounded then most,but his striking is higher then most fighters and is his bread and butter.

Oh yeah, it's certainly possible that Guida would get a shot, I just don't think it will happen. Mainly because I think Dana knows G-Sot or Miller would be more deserving and also G-Sot in a title fight would help push MMA and the UFC in the growing market down under. Also he knows those are the two fighters the fans want to see competing for the title. We'll have to wait and see I guess.
I agree the LW division is getting backlogged and they need to get it sorted out ASAP, but it just shows how stacked the weight-class is at the moment! Hopefully if Pettis, G-Sot and Miller all win we'll get to see Miller vs. G-Sot in a number 1 contenders match around same time as Pettis vs. Maynard/Edgar winner - hopefully that will sort out the jam. Obviously if one or more of them loses then some of the backlog will go away as well.

I guess more or less Im sick of people saying that Pettis will get smoked by a UFC LW. The dude already has trained with other UFC LW's and has UFC fighters at the gym he trains with. I myself knew Pettis was good at grappling, but I didnt realize how good it was going against WEC's top LW's. Really impressed me and I train with Pettis

I can understand that.I don't think him fighting ufc guys makes any difference.Top competition is top competition ufc or wec. For the record i am taking Pettis to win,and not just win but finish it.Not sure where he finishes it but i think the motivation he is gonna have for this fight will get him the W.

This is gonna be a sick fight. Very excited about it because with a win both guys are very deserving of a title shot and they are two of my favorite fighters. Plus, a loss for either isn't detrimental as they are both big names.

I say leave the titles open, and start a tourney over the next several UFCs. It will give current UFC lightweights a chance to drop to a different weight class if they so choose, and (possibly) get more people to watch. Although, with Aldo and Cruz both semi-hurt, that might delay it a tad too much.

You don't think it has anything to do with the fact that the UFC had zero fighters in Aldo or Cruz weight divisions, thus no-one who could possible be better than them?
This was clearly not the case in the Lightweight division, the UFC's Lightweight division is largely recognised as a level above the WEC's

No, no. I understand that aspect (and agree with it for the most part). It's also the reason I think that Pettis should be #1 contender. I don't think he should have to start at the bottom as the final LW champ; it would be the same if Bendo had won the fight.

I always imagined the WEC LW champ would come into the UFC ranked in the 6-8 range and would need a win against a credible UFC name before they would get a title shot....And that is exactly whats happening
