Re: AnthonyPettis: Talks fight, The Kick heard round Da Worl
I've come across it more than once, it being said, that Tae Kwon Do isn't effective in MMA. Well, that kick demonstrates that it is, cause that kick was straight up Tae Kwon Do.
I've seen the spinning back kick do plenty of damage also.

Sure, it's called Mixed Martial Arts for a reason, because fighters are employing a multiple of styles. Like I said though, that Pettis Super kick is most definitely TKD.
Joe Rogan demonstrates the turning side kick
There's a few techniques from Tae Kwon Do that are effective in MMA, and this one is my favorite. It was my specialty when I was competing in Tae Kwon Do tournaments.

You can clearly see Showtime's base is that of a TaeKwonDo fighter... What makes him more than effective is a very dangerous BJJ, and Muay Thai game. Im sure he also trains american wrestling as well... Basically, hes so well rounded... But yes TKD base for sure...

yeah i wouldnt disagree with that, i guess my wording was off, although i dont believe its entirely true, i think its a significant part of his base, but its hard to know this kid's base considering his jits and different styles of striking.

Its entirely true.... I saw that MTV special that documented his life growing up and YEA his base is TKD... That was the first art he got into as a little kid and still trains/teaches it... his BJJ game (for the cage) is top notch.. That comes from his hard work and training after his striking base which again is TKD.... I know I know... Its hard to believe

Re: AnthonyPettis: Talks fight, The Kick heard round Da Worl
Taekwondo (태권도; 跆拳道; Korean pronunciation: [tʰɛkwʌndo])[a] is a Korean martial art and the national sport of South Korea. In Korean,
tae (태, 跆) means "to strike or break with foot";
kwon (권, 拳) means "to strike or break with fist"; and do (도, 道) means "way," "method," or "art." Thus, taekwondo may be loosely translated as "the art of the foot and fist" or "the art of kicking and punching."The art in general
emphasizes kicks
thrown from a
mobile stance
, employing the leg's greater reach and power (compared to the arm).

Re: AnthonyPettis: Talks fight, The Kick heard round Da Worl
TKD techniques are seen very often in MMA, people just don't realise it. Dennis Sivers vicious spinning back kick is a TKD technique.
The way that Pettis moves also shows his TKD base. Obviously there are quite a few techniques that wouldn't be useful in MMA, but the same could be said for any martial art.

Re: AnthonyPettis: Talks fight, The Kick heard round Da Worl
The good thing about all this is,and that kick, Anthony
says he has more where that came from
. So we should be seeing more of why they call him Showtime.
