I actually got into salt because my neighbor was dumping a RedSea years ago. He knew I had a ton of fresh tanks in the house at the time and asked if I wanted it. He had tried to get rid of it, to no avail. He was literally walking out of to the curb, fish and all, when I saw him. I took it in and was hooked. About 10 years ago I stopped fuckking with all tanks and set up a pond.
The pond is now gone, and there's a 29G freshie and the FOWLR.
The 10 will morph into the 20 and I'll probably clean up the 10 and set it up as a Betta tank in my classroom.

I'm going full low tech also.
HOB filters and basic lights.
Low maintenance corals like Pulsing Xenia, Zoa's, Mushrooms, Leathers...

That is awesome! I love that's how you got the tank.
Definitely do the betta tank in class. My 3rd grade teacher had a 20g community tank in class. It's what got me & my best friend into fish. We both still are.
Low tech is cool. It's limiting but liberating. More streamlined & less stress.
