The old way:

Rankings

One champion who defends their title each event

A number 1 contender fight between top 2 ranked fighters excluding the champ and title challenger

Contender fights, 4 contenders (next highest ranked) fight and the 2 winners meet in a number 1 contender fight the following event

I like the current set up but i also like the idea of champion fights and defending of the title

I'm with you. I like the format but miss climbing the rankings and the contender fights as well.
 
Will we still submit picks in the same way each week? Do we submit every week regardless of where we are in the rankings? ( assuming there are fighys on that week )

Yes with the new format there will be a Main Card consisting of a Title Fight, #1 Contenders Fight and 2 Contenders fights. Everyone else will be on the undercard trying to get their rankings up to make it to a Main Card.
