There are so many odd things with this story, beginning with how the article refers to it as “making love” to a cow. But hey, let me not distract from the fact that an 18-year-old Bali teen named Ngurah Alit is accused of making sweet sweet love to a “flirtatious” cow.
According to a report in The Jakarta Globe:
Village head Ida Bagus Legawa told the Jakarta Globe that a villager, identified as Gusti Ngurah Dinar, caught Alit committing bestiality “when he was standing naked and holding the cow’s ***.” He was standing on a mud terrace between two rice paddy fields.
A shocked Dinar escorted Alit to the village office for questioning, where he stated that he believed the cow, owned by Wayan Yasa, was a young and beautiful girl.
“She was calling to me, making flattering comments, then I had sex with her,” Alit told local officials.
The punishment is equally as absurd. The cow will find herself drowned at sea (which is the ritual for the animal half of any sexing) in an effort to rid the village of “dirty behavior.” Alit will be cleansed in the ocean and fined 2,000 Balinese coins.
This is also not the first time a cow has been boned in Bali; in 2008, a 70-year-old old man was found having sex with a cow whom he said tempted him by claiming to be a virgin girl. Villagers drowned that cow out of fear the man had impregnated it.
It’s easy to mock other cultures, but any time your biggest concern in a situation where a 70-year-old had sex with a cow because he thought it was a virgin girl is if the cow is or isn’t pregnant, you might want to reprioritize. No matter how seductively that cow chewed her cud.
Then again, I might be asking a whole lot from a country that would possibly look at my iPhone then accuse me of witchcraft and burn me at the stake. This village in Bali is like the backdrop for a Bugs Bunny cartoon where he gets put into a cauldron and threatened to get cooked alive.
