Does anyone like this new guys articles? Because I dont! im not trying to bash on him but I thought the article he wrote about Kaufman/Rousey was kind of insulting to Sarah Kaufman, and the one he wrote about the Jon Jones/Chael Sonnen trash talk being "fake" was complete garabage....
Thoughts?

He's very opinionated....therefore there will be plenty of people not like his articles. I like his writing style though, very easy to read and very insightful. I like him.

About Kaufmann was a tiny bit disrespectful, but he might be right about the trash talk..It could be hype, ya never know unless Sonnen just purposely disrespects EVERYONE that he might fight one day..
Put it this way..Sonnen and Rashad are friends(not best buds) but very friendly terms..If they fought it wouldn't surprise me if they both said to each other let's hype this s--- up( WWE style) and say what we want about each other to get publicity and attention for this fight, then we'll lay it on the line in the octagon....I'm not saying every fighters do this, but not all fights are bad blood..Who knows if this is real with Bones..Sonnen has never disrespected him before so who knows?..Obviously Silva v Sonnen trash talk wasn't fake lol

Yeah, his articles have been more commentary and opinion, which is fine.

i dont wanna hate on the guy but his articles are about twice as long as what i'm used to reading on junkie. i have about a 32 second attention span and the other junkie articles are pretty much right to the point.

As has been said, his articles are commentary and opinion: hence the mixed views.
Personally I like it. Gives me something to read which is usually a viewpoint I haven't considered...

It's a change to pace. Prior to this, MMAjunkie was mainly taking the Joe Friday approach.

Its great that they can bring info from a new perspective.
I love this hire by Junkie. It was quite brilliant.
And your talking about it, thats the key of it all.

Well I won't count him out just yet then I guess. Maybe I was just a little caught off guard. When I read the first article about Kaufman I didn't bother to look at the author before I started reading, then I was like "What the heck? This doesn't sound like MMAjunkie material" lol but I guess we will see.

Yeah, its not news as much as opinion pieces, which I think bring a different set of people to the site then just the news.
If you find you dont like it eventually then just skip over it.

I didn't know who this guy was, so I had to go through a massive library to reach the prized possession one might call "a Ben Fowles article".
And wow, reading his Jones-Sonnen thing the guy acts like he's so self-righteous and hip, just like any other opinionated MMA forum poster (especially on the UG forum or here). Way to think outside of the box and be bold, Ben.
He whines on and on about Jon Jones saying "are you not entertained" and has to explain how it's from Gladiator. Well, Jon Jones stole that phrase from me after I was describing Chris "the next Serra" Weidman on these very forums that everyone can vouch for. And yeah, no crap does it come from Gladiator, Ben.
Seeing as how buffaloblue says "he's garnered a reaction" with his 9 replies on an MMAjunkie forum thread, may as well hire BRF to write their articles seeing as how he would create an even bigger reaction than this blow-hard.

I absolutely detest opinion pieces on news sites. That being said, he isn't that bad, and it's easy enough to skip over his articles if he proves to be as bad as other sites.

At least you know who the author is from the article header.

His articles are well written but it is the content I don't care for. His pieces were disappointing and rather melodramatic and over the top. Like he went on this big rant about the public back and forth between Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen. MMA as a sport should be "above" such things. Why? Not every fighter has to be like Chael Sonnen, but spectacle is what the media AND the fans give attention to. The whole thing about Sarah Kaufman being a "purist" was extremely poor.
And it's not just Fowlkes articles. It seems many of the articles this week are pushing this whole thing about showmanship (Rouseys, Sonnens, etc.) vs. the stoic sports athletes. No offense but I read an entire article profiling Julie Kedzie (don't remember who wrote it) where it seems all she had to say was she's boring, she knows she's boring, and she hates interviews and I'm sorry that pretty insulting toward not just to Julie Kedzie but women's MMA.
Sonnen and Jones are just giving fans what they want. Fans want heat, they want tension, and they want trash talk. Sorry but that's the way it is. Even fans who say they hate it don't like it, when they get enraged about it that's exactly the angle a Chael Sonnen, a Tito Ortiz, a Ronda Rousey, or numerous others are going for. That doesn't mean this is becoming like WWE, it just means that fans enjoy and deep down desire spectacle in sport as well.
No one cared about Cassius Clay when he won an Olympic gold medal. People started caring when he created a persona based off a PROFESSIONAL WRESTLER and started knocking people out as Muhammed Ali.

I like him. I've read his stuff on both mmafighting.com and SI.com, and I think he's a great addition to the staff.
Aside from Dr. Benjamin, Junkie didn't have too many columns (columns=opinions; articles= news), so I'm glad to see some more op-ed items on the main page.

Obviously his job is to deal in opinion so you may agree or disagree with his view but you can't disagree with the fact he's a very good writer.
Dude got mad chops in the word-smithery.

I thought the Sonnen/Bones one was a waste of time. Didn't read the other one as I have no interest in reading articles about 'pro fighters' that I could beat in a fight myself
