Just saw on UFC Tonight. Given how thick he is, I think he can do well at Welterweight. He's just gotta keep his hands up and protect that chin.

he got taken down a few times by thomson, not sure if this would be the best idea. bigger stronger grapplers and taller strikers await him.

Not cutting as much weight may give him a bit more energy. Ben is close to the same size as GSP was, he is a huge LW. I like him moving closer to his normal weight.

I could dig that for Bendo's last lightweight fight.

I understand the height issue, but I feel like him moving up will actually balance things out between the bigger, stronger grapplers, because he himself will be bigger and stronger from not having to cut as much.

True. but a lot of WW's also cut a lot of weight. at LW he seems to use his size advantage a lot in his bouts, and at welterweight that advantage, if existent, will not be as great

Bendo always looked super skinny (to me) at the weigh-ins. He's mentioned going to 170 before, I hope it works out for him.
I can't think of anyone for his last LW fight, no-one in the top 10 is coming off a loss besides Thompson and Miller, as we've already seen both of those (I guess the Thompson fight was pretty close, and as he's also thinking of retiring, a re-match might work)
with his predicted 3 years left in MMA, I think he could make a decent run at the WW belt. He's a relatively active LW (3 fights in 2014, and room for 1 more). I how he'll go at WW I'm not sure, will have to wait and see

I'm not sure how well he'll do at 170 but if that's what his body is telling him more power to him. I guess it will depend on how he performs at the new weight whether or not he retires before turning 33. I wish him luck however it plays out

Size isn't everything, he will have a legit speed advantage over a lot of top guys (plus he has a slick sub game with all these wrestlers). The only thing I question is the power.

He might actually have more power at 170, due to having more energy to exert.

He better start hitting the weights if he is moving up. 170 has some big guys right now at the top. While he may have a speed advantage, I don't see him having the same success at 170 that he has at 155.

I'd love to see Thiago Alves school him.

Don't see him beating any of the top WWs.

Energy has never been a problem for him... his cardio and explosiveness always has been his great. I would say that his advantage at 170 would be his quickness over bigger opponents.

Height shouldn't be too much of an issue for Benson, he's 5 "9 or so, taller than Lawler and the same height as Henrdicks. I would say Condit is fairly tall for a WW, and he's not that much taller.
His reach isn't much different either.
