Can you make a better cut/change to the current combat sport in terms of equal weight classes?
boxing
110 115 122 130 138 146 155 165 175 190 205 open Boxing in general
115 125 135 145 155 165 175 190 205 225 open UFC
I especially like what this would mean to Anderson Silva, he could back up his claim of ability to get down to 170, or he could shut up and take his 190 belt, which is what would happen to his 185 belt when they switch.

No the sport is still too young and they are still trying to reel in casual fans and if you start throwing in more weight classes than ppl can keep up with it breeds disinterest. Now it wont kill mma but I think it could hurt the numbers.
Also not really enough fighters yet to do that. I think all these cries for more weight classes may come from the fact that more ppl want to see more title fights and to quote some ppl "meaningful fights" or "with that win he is in the mix" fights.
Just hold more events on ppv AND basic cable. Heck throw some ppl a bone that cant afford to buy the ppv and dont have a babysitter within 1000 miles and put a title fight and/or a number one contender fight on Spike every-once-and-a-while. Sorry I kinda got off topic there...endrant/

I like the weight classes as they are. I'm not keen on an "open" weight class, it leaves room for guys like Roy Nelson. Watching him wheezing and farting all over the octagon was terrible. I also believe that too many weight classes leads to disinterest. It's one of the reasons why I don't like Boxing. Also, guys like Florian would be all over the place, he started at welterweight(or middle, can't remember right now) and now he's at featherweight. I can understand a guy dropping down a class, but 3-4 is a bit much for me.

To toerag
1. The 225 class would allow a guy like Roy to drop down a class without having to shed so much weight. Roy is afraid to lose 50 lbs.
2. Kenny wouldn't be all around the place with my classes, 145 and 155 are there.

I think 135 145 155 170 185 205 and 265 are perfect no need to change anything no more no less.

125 is my favorite weightclass. The guys are so quick, and usually great on the ground. It's like Garcia v Jung, if they did a bunch of meth before they fought.

The UFC needs to add flyweight fighters and a split the HW division to include SHW from 235 and up.
205-265 is too much of a spread.

225-230 would be better, alot of guys could cut to 235 and cain being one of them.

I'm sorry, but I believe Flyweight is one of the better weight classes in MMA, and hell the few Strawweight fights I've seen have been pretty good.
Just because they're small doesn't mean they can't go. Watch Tachi Palace Fights 10 on August 5. There's three fights at 125, two featuring top ten fighters (Darrell Montague vs Ian McCall and Jussier da Silva vs Mamoru Yamaguchi).

I would like to see a 167.5, 170, and a 172 weight class. Then GSP, Fitch, Diaz can all have belts not have to fight each other anymore, and everybody is happy because their favourite fighter has a belt.

I like the current system, as it stands.
135 - 145 - 155 - 170 - 185 - 205 - 265 is perfect with where the sport is right now. Once there is a LOT of talent at 265+, maybe change the weight divisions a little up top, maybe a 240, and 265 class?
The big issue with boxing is, that there are 49128739812379281312 different titles / weight classes. MMA doesn't need to be like that. 7 champions is plenty to spread around, and have almost a title fight per PPV (barring injuries). Zuffa is almost at the size now, where they can have a title fight per PPV, and 3 cards on Spike / Showtime / Versus a month, and have all of their fighters active almost all of the time.

If they were to add any belts I would like to see 150, 164, 195, switch 205 to 210, and make a 230 division.

135 are small as well I didn't say they can't scrape. I believe I discussed muscle and fitness with you in my "how is roy nelson thread" and I'll say this respectfully you don't completely understand how it works.
I mean honestly their is not much of size difference between 125 and 135. Regardless of how short you are you can add some freakin muscle and still have to cut to make 135. I think it would just make things more clogged. I just don't understand it maybe I'm just weird about this subject since most people seem to be all for it
