I don't even think this is close. As awesome as Torres is - and although Bowles was a huge underdog - I rarely read anything from people here or anyone in the press that he stood absolutely 0 chance and it would take a "lucky" shot for him to win. Also I am not reading much from people about how it was a lucky shot and that he will likely lose his next title shot etc. etc.
Personally I believed Torres would win - but was excited to see the fight because I thought this would be a big challenge for him - Bowles looked outstanding in his last fight and has never not looked good.
I thought I'd get confirmation that Serra was the bigger upset.
er just in case you didnt read it - didnt want anyone to think I just randomly decide that people were comparing bowles/serra
this is straight from the Junkie Main Page article :

Bowles made a name for himself on Sunday night, shocking the world in a manner not seen since Matt Serra stunned current UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre in April 2007

Competition at 135 in the WEC is not comparable to competition at 170 in the UFC. Champs in the WEC are constantly being replaced by "no-name" fighters.

Serra was the bigger upset by far. I think Bowles is a legit up and comer and I could actually see him defending the belt 1 or 2 times. Serra is a good fighter. Not a great fighter though. Bowles has a much bigger upside since he's so young into his career.

I picked Bowles because of Torres' 17 fight win streak and recent dominance. GSP wasnt the dominant fighter he is today at the time he lost to Serra. And since then he's faced the top fighters at WW. But to go 17 fights straight without a loss is impressive regardless of the weight class.
Bowles reminds me of a smaller version of Brown.

Serra was by far the biggest upset. Of course anything can happen in a fight but, serras own mom had money on GSP. I thought Torres would win but, I was rooting for Bowles & knew he had a good chance. when it (Torres/Bowles) went the way it did I was pleasantly suprised But, not shocked.

I agree ... Bowles does remind me of Brown. Wasn't a lucky win imo either. He was clearly the better fighter Sunday. Torres has been fighting subpar competition for a long time. That said, a 17 fight win streak is impressive even against a string of cans.

if anyone knew anything about bowles then they knew he had a great chance to win. so really its not that big of an upset.

Serra called his mom to put a bet on GSP to, it was probably the biggest shock in MMA...i personally cant think of a bigger upset

this question is maybe one of the most easy questions for a mma fan, serra whitout a doubt, serra was not that great when he fought against gsp, gsp is just amaizing, now torres is good but bowles alredy show alot of talent and torres was showing like urijah fabre that they can lose match is not like we are talking about a beating against silva, emelianenko or machida or even the same gsp, torres is not in that class so for that is serra the answer without a doubt

Def. Serra, he basically has no real outstanding skills (What I can tell from his very few fights) the only thing I notice is his big right hand that ko'ed Georges and hit Hughes pretty hard.

Serra got lucky with that punch. Bowles is the real deal and i don't consider that win to be an upset. The better fighter won imo.

Serra has world class jitz, he just hasn't shown it lately. Serra is one of the first fighters I saw throw submission combinations & the first omaplata I ever saw was courtisy of Serra.

I think Torres and St-Pierre are both top ten pound-for-pound guys, but Bowles was an undefeated opponent, probably the top contender in the weight class.
Serra probably wasn't even in the top ten among welterweights, so his upset was much bigger.
