"When it comes to 155 pounds, I don't even like cutting the weight to make that weight. It's not a tough cut for me -- I probably cut three of four pounds on the day of the weigh in. But you have to cut down food and you have to cut your water down. And I don't know if that's a healthy thing. I mean if someone said let's meet tomorrow at 12 o'clock to fight somewhere, your family honor is on the line, I wouldn't stop drinking water and stop eating. I don't see how that can help you and make you the stronger person.... I come from a whole different mindset. I believe you get as healthy as you can and fight the best guy possible. I feel that I'm a healthy person right now and in a great mindset, and I know that when we get to Australia we're going to fight less than 24 hours after the weigh in, so I'd rather be in the position that I'm in. Twenty hours later me and Jon Fitch are going to be standing in the ring looking at each other and I'm going to be happy knowing that I was drinking as much water and eating as much as I could the whole time I was getting ready to fight someone of Fitch's caliber. I don't think Dana [White] would ever let [me fight at 155 again].'
---------------------------
So this is the question I want to ask BJ.
Even though you feel better and healthier at 170, do you think those positives outweigh the negatives with the negatives being that you're fighting a much stronger and bigger guy?
I dunno man.

Re: BJ Penn talks fighting at 170 and why he prefers it over
I am a very firm believer that skills trumps all, and this goes for everything, even fighting.
Size won't determine his loss against Fitch, it will be Jon Fitch's skill.
Honestly, I like Penn at 170 when he comes in shape, and hopefully he comes in to bring it, because he is going to have to. #2 consensus WW in the world isn't going to be scurred of what Bj has, which in itself makes an interesting fight, even though I dislike Jon Fitch strongly.

This is the question I want to ask BJ:
"Dear Mr. Penn,
In the onfortunate event of a loss to Mr. Fitch, will you use that same reason as an excuse?"

No, because BJ Penn never uses excuses when he losses, some of his fans does though, and thats why people just keep bringing this stuff up.

In that case, may I suggest you read his autobiography?

If that's all it takes (eating and drinking water) to keep BJ fighting... I'm cool with that. Love him or hate him, he's an exciting fighter.

This sounds like an excuse for being at WW and being in this title contention fight to me. I only cut 3-4 pounds and I don't wanna.

You're being ridiculous. Frankie Edgar tossed BJ around and he's a natural 45er. Fitch is gonna rag-doll him unless he lands a hail Mary OHR in 21 seconds again. Otherwise he'll huff and puff the last two rounds on his back eating WW elbows. I suspect this is going to get ugly. Think about it.

Re: BJ Penn talks fighting at 170 and why he prefers it over
However BJ has to put it together in his own head is cool with me. I just wanna see a motivated BJ with a good gameplan step into the octagon with Fitch. If he does that and still loses then so be it Fitch was the better man.

Re: BJ Penn talks fighting at 170 and why he prefers it over
I do like BJ.
So I ask this out of respect...
Was this the same question he asked before fighting GSP the second time? Clearly that did not work out for him. Fitch was more of a Challenge that Penn was in their second meeting.

Re: BJ Penn talks fighting at 170 and why he prefers it over
BJ has to come out faster in order to win. you cant be undersized and have someone have speed against you luckily FItch is pretty slow.

I tend to disagree.
I'm pretty sure Fitch will use his size to press Penn against the cage and "control" him, while doing almost NO damage.

Penn prefers 170 because Frankie Edgar isnt there. Soon, he'll retire because "hes been fighting his whole life and its time to call it quits."

So if this were an open weight fight and BJ was fighting Brock Lesnar, you're take on it would be that Lesnar's size wouldn't be a factor? If BJ were to lose it would have nothing to do with giving up 100 lbs. and 6", it would be that he didn't have the skills to match Lesnar's skills??
mmmmmkay.
There are weight classes for a reason, it really can't be put any simpler than that. Yeah, I know, there are exceptions to everything and smaller men can beat larger men, the bigger guy doesn't always win, skill CAN over come a size difference but to throw a blanket statement of "size never trumps skill" is as wrong a statement as I've ever seen on here. You have obviously never wrestled or been in a fight.
