According to our fiscal friends over at BetUS.com, it's UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Mauricio Rua, who is the +180 underdog heading into his reworked UFC 128 main event against the recently promoted division contender Jon Jones.
"Bones" stands as the favorite at -230.
Anyone ready to open their wallets? Or do you expect the lines to shift dramatically as we get closer to fight night?
"Shogun" was originally booked to defend his light heavyweight strap against Rashad Evans; however, "Suga" suffered a knee injury in training camp, forcing him to hand over his 205-pound title shot on March 19 in "The Garden State" to his friend and training partner.
Jones earned the short-notice title fight with a second round submission of Ryan Bader at UFC 126 back on Feb. 5.

Nice photoshop....and I can't believe Shogun is the underdog. I know Jones is awesome. Hes f---ing great. But its Shogun Rua we are talking about here. The guy that won the most stacked tournament in mixed martial arts history. He beat out 15 of the best fighters of the world in that tournament and came out on top.
Evangelista Santos
Akihiro Gono
Rampage Jackson
Alistair Overeem
Rogerio Noguera
Ricardo Arona
Cyrille Diabate
Kevin Randleman
Mark Coleman
Chuck Lidell
Lyoto Machida
If thats not a great track record I don't know what is. I definitely see the potential in Jon Jones to become one of the best all time, but I just can't believe he is the betting favorite over Shogun Rua. How does that even work?

Jones towered over Shogun in the cage last week.
I think the odds are justified, he ragdolled Bader who you would of thought was a strong guy, just the strength of the man is incredible. Shogun really needs to either blitzkreig him with punches or try lock up some sort of submission, which I suspect will be difficult.

I pretty sure its because Shogun is coming off knee surgery. His cardio will probably hurt him because his knee won't allow to train as hard. Remember when he fought Forrest? I'm pretty sure that's what the odd makers are thinking on this one, i could be wrong. I don't think Jones should be favored by that much though.

Re: Bones opens up as a -230 favorite over Shogun, who's at
Shogun has the most impressive Resume of any champ.
He might be underdog but he has been udnerdog in many of his fights infact
Liddel, Rampage, Lil Nog (i beleieve), Machida (both times), and Arona.
Those shots BAder landed on JJ are nothing even close to what Shogun can land on him. Bader doesnt even hit with 50% of the power Shogun hits with

Jones will most likely put Shogun on his back at some point. The problem there is Shogun is very dangerous off his back and I am betting on a leg lock sub win.
I have 3 units down on Shogun at +190.

Shogun has one submission. He has been submitted twice. I would not consiter him that dangerous off his back.

Considering Shogun's layoff I'm not totally surprised. I think the line will change though as fight night gets closer.

Re: Bones opens up as a -230 favorite over Shogun, who's at
It's not surprising. Shogun has had bad performances coming off long layoffs and injuries. He beat Coleman but it wasn't a good performance.
Jones is the hot young fighter right now. He's beating guys left and right so not surprising the odds are favoring him. Odds favored Lyoto Machida the same way going up to the first Shogun fight.
Plus Shogun doesn't have great takedown defense and Jones has a great shot and strength to just mandhandle dudes.

This is analysis based off win/loss records from a web site. Shogun has very rarely been put on his back but when he has he usually sweeps and transitions quickly. It is well known he has great leg locks and a solid ground game while Jones has shown a tendency to leave his limbs open for subs.

I agree with Gnarcore too, paper says Shogun isn't a sub specialist but look at how he threatened Machida on the ground in their last fight, immediately looked for a leg then used it to get up. He won't be some Mousasi on the ground.
And for clarification, I think Bones opened around -140, at least that was what I saw on Sunday.

Seriously, very good odds to bet on Shogun. I think he has all the advantage on the stand-up and sub game.

shogun will probably get put on his back.......but he does one thing better than most i have seen........he gets up really quick.
i'd say coming off the long layoff and knee problems yet again its fare to say Bones is a favorite.
