This is the interesting tidbit that I came across that I wasn't aware of:
The weekend extravaganza also promises a big payday for the state, which will receive 5 percent of the gross ticket sales
(1 percent is earmarked for a fund for injured fighters)
plus $75,000 of the broadcast revenues. The windfall includes state taxes on merchandise sales, meals, lodging, liquor, and other sources.

I didn't know they did that and am glad that they do.

I hope that sends NY a bit of a wake up call. Have fun paying for those LIRR repairs....i bet a nice pay day from a UFC event would help out with that.

I forgot to point that out too. The impact on the economy in Boston from just this one event is estimated to be about 6 million dollars. Crazy.

I really hope they see it as a way to generate some money....LIRR (Long Island Rail Road for those out of the area) has been practically shut down all week so far. There was a major fire in one of the exchange stations and its causing chaos all over for the morning and afternoon commute. Basically this is like Chicago's Loop transfer catching fire and shutting down. big mess thats gonna cost an assload to fix. Apparently tho, NY only sees one way to generate revenue and thats by raising the prices of and taxing the balls off monthly passes/daily tix for the trains and subways.
