One of my good female friends and I decided to move in together in order to save on rent. I found the idea of living with a female whom I wasn't dating nor had ever hooked up with to be quite refreshing. And low and behold, days before we sign the lease and make it official, we go out for $1 margarita night to celebrate and get plastered. Needlessly to say, we didn't move in together bc the last thing I needed was a jealous, psycho roommate who I didn't even find attractive. We still salvaged our friendship, so there's that at least...

Biologically it is far less likely. Normally if you have that deep a bond with someone of the sex you are attracted to then feelings of romance will develop.

It's possible, but I think it depends on the circumstances. For most of us, I'm sure friendships have at least some element of physical attraction thrown in, but personality and other things matter too. Most of my friends are women, and I'm probably capable of being attracted to more than half of them. But I don't always think of them in that way if there's some other reason to be their friend. I'm a strong believer in "Friends with potential," (i.e. it could happen, but it doesn't have to), and I have that mentality for many of my friends. But for some it's just a matter of inconveniences (too far away, can't deal with my military schedule, not attracted to me because of xyz, etc...). Whether or not one of those things lead to me becoming an acquaintance or just ending the whole thing depends on the situation.
I don't have any BFFs, but my closest friends include two Marines, a couple I've known for eight years, a woman in Colorado, and a person I've dated before. I started as a friend with the last person because she was taken at the time.
