Hi,
I am pretty new to the whole MMA world and I am enjoying it a lot so far so I'd like to try to learn as much as I can. One thing I've noticed on a lot of different sites is that people don't seem to like sherdog. What is the reason for this? Should I stop going to that site?
Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure what that even means but I'm pretty sure it's wrong.
People don't like sherdog because their forums are full of idiots and dickheads. Also, I've heard (though I can't vouch) that they often jump the gun when they hear rumors and report unsubstantiated things. No reason not to go there for the fight finder or news, etc, but this is def the place to be for foruming it up.

Welcome aboard on Junkie, and always glad to see a new MMA fan. It's too bad your first post here had to mention the "S" word though!
This is a much more people friendly place to hang out to be honest. And I never believe anything unless I see it here!

The Sherdog forums suck.
It all boils down to one thing: they are too busy.
That means, too many trolls, too many topics (if there's a big piece of news, expect no less than 20 threads on it within 2 minutes), and too hard to follow.
Some activity is nice, but I don't like posting something, and then reading through the 5 pages that came up while I was writing my post (to find that 8 people already said what I said), and repeating. There's no discussion.
Forget about posting something and checking back a few hours or, heaven forbid, days later, as your post will be on page 38.
The MMA Junkie forums are much better for discussion, and I'm glad I found them.

Thanks a lot for the info and the welcome
While I'm at it I might as well ask something else I've been wondering about and can't seem to figure out;
Every now and then I see someone saying for example "WAR Machida". I understand he's expressing his appreciation for Machida but what does WAR stand for?

I asked the same question. I got an answer here http://forums.mmajunkie.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=9837&hilit=+war
As for Sherdog, I repeat what everyone else said, the forums are fillede with nothing but immature d0uchebags who call each other names all day. Love the fight finder though.

I think the only problem with Sherdog is there forums. They have awesome interviews and analysis and the fight finder is on point.

BJPenn.com forums are rediculous, I consider myself one of the top BJ fans on this forum, and I can't even stand to be on those forums because of the dumb stuff that is spewed in BJs name over there. His site though is amazing, tons of instructional videos and amateur MMA fights. I would suggest everyone go there, just stay away from the forums.

This site is great because they are partnered up w\ Inside MMA which I watch weekly and they generally have news really fast.
I'm pretty new to mma online as well... and i don't know about the anti-sherdog stuff. I goto sherdog to use their fight finder, because the one on this site only links to news stories about the fighter. The one on sherdog shows you their stats and fight history which is cool so you can see how good / bad a fighters record is and who they won or lost against and what round it was, which event.. .etc.

I listen to their show every once in a while. They do have great guests on, but I still like the interviewing style of Gorgeous George and Trigg better when they have on fighters. Sherdog also likes to talk crap about TAGG Radio, which is now junkieradio. Every now and then you’ll hear something good, like Rashad Evans calling Sherdog “TAGG Radio” during an interview. Sherdog has a really good fighter index. I think it’s probably the most complete one I’ve seen.
I first heard this “WAR” thing on the Jim Rome show. I think it’s supposed to mean that you support whatever you are WARing. I don’t know.

This place is much better now that Bergoff is no longer here. It had become a troll-dom before he got banned. He would start an argument just for the sake of starting an argument. Now all is more peaceful. Fck Him!!

welcome to the junkie!
I think the best way to put it is that MMAjunkie is like flying first class. It's less crowded, little to no BS, flight attendants don't screw around, and it's a much more comfortable place to be. Sherdog is equal to coach. The seats hurt your back, your pillow smells like farts, you're bound to have some whiny *** kid near you, and the flight attendants don't have the time to pertain to the needs of the people there.

That should be the saying on the back of the MMAjunkie t-shirts.
Front: MMAJunkie
Back: "like flying first class"

Ok, mmajunkie.com is the best place to find true news about mma. It is also known for the Inside MMA tv program on HDNET,
I for sure recommend you Inside MMA. It is the best place to learn from the best mma news around the world. If you dont have the HDNET channel you can watch every episode on: http://www.hdnetfights.com/insidemma.php#watch. Enjoy
And yes, stop going to that site.
