Maybe it's me, but after a certain age if you're worried about your wife getting beat up then you've got bigger problems.
This sounds like a problem for kids aged 18-22yrs old, not for adult/married people.

I am not for marriage but a female partner training to fight is one of my last concerns. Maybe if I lived in NYC/Jersey and frequented guido juice head filled night clubs and she had to fight off other chicks all the time it may be an issue. I am long past my scrapin' days and I tend to be with women who are far more mature than that.

But do not you feel that people who do not train or do any sort of physical activity(ies) are less of person/less good than people who do?
Hypothetical:
You have two historians of equal notoriety and ability. They are also equal in all other regards. One smokes and is not physically fit, the other does not smoke and trains MMA. Is not the one who trains better than the one who does not since he can beat him up and (most likely) can lift heavier things and is therefore more useful?
Also, if your wife cannot fight you know that she can never back up her words. What would you think of her if she got into an argument and got beat up? Would it not devalue her, if not in your eyes then in the world's eyes?
Does not training make you better than not training?
