Scott Coker and the guys from Strikeforce have been trying to put the long overdue grudge match between Jason Miller and Nick Diaz, but their problems continue. Both parties couldn't agree on the weight and it now seems that they will have to find Diaz another opponent for the January show. From Cesar Gracie's official website:
Jason "Mayhem" Miller has opted to not take a fight with Nick Diaz in January at a catchweight of 178lbs.
Despite having previously fought at the 170lbs weight limit, Miller now says that he is unwilling to meet at 178 and instead wants Strikeforce's Welterweight Champion to move up to middleweight to fight him. Miller has stated he would be willing to lose 2 pounds and fight at 183lbs... As of yet Miller has defeated none of the top Strikeforce contenders but did win a fight on MTV's Bully Beatdown show.
Strikeforce will now be searching for a new opponent for Diaz for their January card.

So behind all those jabs on their "official statement", is them putting all the blame on Miller for not willing to fight at 178 lbs despite having fought at 170 before. For those who have been following all the drama, you would know that this is the same exact argument Mayhem had been using, where he blames Cesar Gracie's camp for suddenly not wanting to fight at 183 lbs, even if he had done so in the past.*
This whole soap opera-like scenario reminds me too much of all those failed boxing negotiations. Both camps argued in circles and threw enough crap at each other, that it's starting to make a fight that looked very appealing almost 8 months ago, start to smell like the poop.
If they can't get it done now, just move on completely, as I am pretty certain that I'm not the only person losing interest in this bout... Oh, and I hear there's a certain British fighter who deserves a shot at welterweight gold.
Editor's Note (Kid Nate):
Diaz fought Scott Smith at a 180lb catch weight and Frank Shamrock at a 179lb catchweight so I'm not sure what fights Diaz has taken at 183lbs that Miller is referring to.

Re: Cesar Gracie: Nick Diaz vs. Mayhem Miller is officially
I'm with the Diaz camp on this one. Don't go and call out Diaz and run your mouth when you know Diaz is the 170lb champ and you have no intentions of cutting down to 170lbs (or even meeting in the freakin middle of the two weight classes). Mayhem could cut down to 170lbs with no problem. Thiago Alves, GSP, Jon Fitch, Anthony Johnson are all bigger fighters then Mayhem and they cut down to 170.

Diaz had the balls to attack 185 miller with his buddies on his side but he is not willing to engage 183 miller without his buddies on his side. We know who is dodging here really.

Re: Cesar Gracie: Nick Diaz vs. Mayhem Miller is officially
Better to cancel it now then last minute, when Diaz has to pull out with a yeast infection.
They both cut weight, Mayhem fought at 170 pounds 5 years ago, he looked worse than Irvin did at 185. I think Mayhem is bigger now, and Diaz fought at 180 last year. Meeting in the middle means that Diaz probably needs to cut 5 pounds for the fight, and Mayhem has to cut around 20 or more for the fight. The cut would be so much harder on Miller than Diaz.
But it doesn't matter, it's probably for the best. Diaz will just ignore the fact that he ran his mouth, jumped Miller in a group attack...and then didn't nut up for the fight.

Re: Cesar Gracie: Nick Diaz vs. Mayhem Miller is officially
Nick Diaz wants no part of Mayhem Miller. Miller would straight up whoop his *** and Diaz knows it. Miller fought at 170 once against GSP and he had to lose a TON of weight. At this point he says there is no way he can even make 178 and that the Gracie camp knows this. So the fact they offered him the fight at 178 is their way of saying "no we won't fight you". Miller says he'd fight Brock Lesnar tomorrow at 190lbs.....see how that works? Miller also isn't trying to become the 170lbs champ, he just wants to fight Diaz since he has a beef with everyone in that camp. Miller can't make the weight and it's unfair to ask him too yet Diaz can easily go up to 185lbs. I don't see the problem.
I suppose we'll just keep watching Diaz fight undersized WWs and LWs. He had no problem sucker punching Miller with 3 other guys but a fair fight isn't going to happen.
Here's Miller's official "fight me Nick Diaz" website

The Diaz bros were among my favorite fighters. They are scared of Mayhem though apparently. I would be too.

LOL at Diaz being scared, Mayhem is calling him out - you don't call a person out and then demand to meet them at the weight your most comfortable at.

Mayhem is a pretty big guy, if you look at what he looked like when he fought GSP at 170, you'll recognize there's no way he could do that again and it's silly for them to be quoting that as an example. 178 is still an extra 7 pounds for Mayhem to cut and when Diaz has been fighting, recently, at 179-180 it seems that he is the one making this fight difficult.

He's not demanding that Diaz "meet him at a weight he is most comfortable at" he's requesting the fight be at a weight that he can actually make. Diaz is requesting the fight be at a weight that he knows Miller can't make because he doesn't want to fight Miller. Like I said, Miller would fight Lesnar tomorrow at 190lbs but Lesnar would never make that weight . Miller barely made 170 back in the day and he's much bigger today than he was back then. He has to cut a bunch of weight just to make 185, going an extra 7lbs is just not going to happen. That's like asking alves to fight at 163lbs. We all know he could never make that weight.

Nah, on your defense though, how do you know that Mayhem CAN'T make 178 lbs? We don't know the guy personally and can't "officially" judge how much weight he could cut just by his looks. If it were by looks, GSP, Fitch, Alves, Johnson, all IMO look bigger than he does and still make 170lbs.
All I'm saying is, if you're going to go out and call someone out asking for a fight, either enter their world or meet half way at least. Why should Diaz have to move up to middleweight just to fight a NON-contender there?

We know he can't make the weight because he said so just last week on Joe Rogan's podcast.

Re: Cesar Gracie: Nick Diaz vs. Mayhem Miller is officially
Diaz and his camp knows about Miller will never be able to get into that weight, Miller document most of his cut weights and he always has alot of work to cut it, he cut more than 20 pounds and he always make it at the last hour the MW mark
Diaz is doing the same thing like he did in the Hieron time this is just another example of him and his camp ducking someone that they know will have alot of chances to beat him
