We've still got two months to go before GSP and Nick Diaz square off. Thus far, there's barely been any back and forth. The best we have is GSP commenting "eee sed I don't wants to fight eem but de trut is I never duck nobodies" which is pretty tame as far as I'm concerned. But now Nick's coach Cesar Gracie (always good for some snappage) is upping the ante:
“The thing is it’s really not my business how he fights; he’s not on my team, so, I truly don’t care how he fights,” said Gracie, while discussing the criticisms St. Pierre has received. “Now if you’re asking me as a fan, yeah, that style is not what I like to watch. I like to watch guys that just go completely for it, take chances, and give crowds what they want, which is ‘Ultimate Fighting,’ not ‘ultimate stalling’ or anything like that.”
Just a note: when reading Cesar Gracie s----talk, it's more fun to imagine him less like this:
...and more like this:
IT'S ULTIMATE FIGHTING NOT ULTIMATE STALLING GEORGES!! LOOL

Good to hear it, it paid off so well for 129 for all his fighters on the card.

I'm not a huge GSP fan but anyone that thinks they can get under GSP's skin or get him to fight with emotion is nuts. The guy has been unflapable since the first Hughes fight.

I would hate to have a coach who encouraged me to fight recklessly and not intelligently.

I would hate to lose fans because I stall more than to have a coach who expects me to do my job, which is fight. Learn the boxing and jiu jitsu game and put it together. I doubt he's telling gilbert and shields to go out there and be wreckless. Dominic aldo frankie silva (usually) jones cain and gilbert do just fine maintaining winning streaks without having to stall or do the minimum.

Who are we talking about, i hope not GSP.
The only current MMA fighter who could sell out 55k tickets and is pretty much a million PPV buys fighter.
For every hard core GSP loses, he gains probably 1000 casual fans.
If there is another fighter(not named GSP or Lesnar) that makes their fight organization more money, more buys and more ticket sales, i'm all ears...

I hate when people take half a quote and make an article of it. Here's the rest of the quote.
"I think he’s going to approach this fight somewhat like the BJ Penn fight," said Gracie when asked how he believes St. Pierre might approach Diaz in contrast to Shields. "I think he’ll try to fight Nick the same way where he’ll tie up with him, try to keep him up against the cage, do a little dirty boxing and try to get him arm weary, maybe get some takedowns and see how that goes. He’ll probably be cautious from the top position but try to inflict damage depending on how it’s going."
"
Georges is a great athlete and a pretty smart fighter
," added Gracie.
"His athleticism often lets him dictate where the fights going to go
, and if he’s comfortable where he can take the finish, without taking too many risks, he will."

Pretty respectful if you ask me.

55+ would have been sold regardless and u know it my friend. Lol. I never make chat with newer or casual fans n hear them say. Gsp is fun to watch. I saw tons of friends make statements about how boring he's become when I've invited him to the last 5 events..
If bisping vs joe blow did a stadium fight in his hometown I guarantee he could rack up 40+
Had it been cain vs dos santos in canada at that stadium I still guarantee. It would have reached 45+

You'll notice the challenge was ignored and a name of a fighter other than GSP or Lesnar that draws as they do isn't given.

You could be right and you could be wrong. That's the problem with hypotheticals - they're not based in concrete facts and can't be proven. What can be proven is that outside of GSP and Lesnar, no one has drawn the numbers they have.

Rich Franklin's second fight with Anderson Silva was fought in Cinncinnati, Franklin's hometown. Attendance was 16K.
Bisping's first fight in his hometown - roughly 15K. His second fight in England - 16K. His last fight in Manchester garnered 17K in attendance.

Velasquez against Big Nog - his most recent fight against someone not named Lesnar had an attendance of 17K. In fact, neither Cain nor Dos Santos has draw big numbers to date. Dos Santos' only headlining card managed an attendance of 14,625.
It seems to me the numbers you've guaranteed don't have a lot of historical fact to back them up. In truth, it appears that those numbers are just wishful guesses.

Bispings first fight in the UK for the UFC was well before it was popular in the UK.
For his last fight, tickets sold out in less than a week. I'm pretty sure it was actually only a few days it took for the event to sell out. That was at UFC 120, vs Akiyama.
At 105 in Manchester, the attendance was a European record at the time (it may still be). Again, it sold out.
I'm not arguing that Bisping is a bigger draw than GSP or Lesnar, but since MMA has been popular in the UK, Michael Bisping has been a massive draw for the UFC.
Edit - I could be reading your post wrong btw, but the way I'm reading it is that you're saying those attendances were not good.

^^^^^ you're right
All them arenas were sold out.
@flound. You hardly think all events are in 55k seated stadiums??

I think what ERGOJ is trying to say is that I could have fought my brother as the headliner to 129 and it would have sold out as the first show in Toronto.

This isnt smack talk. He said from a "fans" perspective. And this is consistant to what ive heard from many fans (excluding my wife and mojojo) I think Georges should be working with world class MUAY THAI coaches instead of Roach. As athletic as he is he would be a freaking monster if he had Alves's style.....just sayin
