I dont know, but I know Asilva is a fan of Ali and great fighters, but hear me out. I like to conspire
23mins and 10 seconds into Asilva vs Sonnen, Silva is getting pounded, but the whole fight hes grabbing this arm and taking the beating very well it had seemed. Then grabs his arm and slaps on the triangle
23mins and 58 seconds into Ali vs Foreman, Ali is getting pounded, but the whole fight hes throwing a small combo, and taking the beating very well it had seemed. Then throws a 8 hit combo to end the tired G Foreman
Do you think it was his plan, to conspire his greatness in ways of coming back, and taking shots and coming threw adversity and then pulling off the unthinkable?
The whole fight he never really goes for it, but I could see him grabbing the wrist the whole fight and moving his hips. I saw it and I was telling my friends and then it happened.

i don't know what was up with that fight. Sonnen beat him standing, and that was the main surprise.
I'll answer you better in a few weeks. Either Silva is the greatest mofo ever, or Belfort will seal the deal that Sonnen really was kicking his a** and that it wasn't a fluke type fight.

He did not beat Silva standing up. He landed ONE significant punch on the feet the whole fight. The rest of the standup was mostly Silva, including a knockdown. Silva slipped throwing a punch in the 5th, and many people mistook it for Sonnen dropping him. In reality, Sonnen landed one good punch on the feet the whole fight.
Maybe you should watch that fight again.

It could be, I mean some people have said in the past that they believe that Silva was waiting until the 5th round to sub him to make it look a lot better and make the fight exciting, but I don't know. It think quite a bit had to do with that fight was the rib injury Silva had going in, I mean he looked like a completely different fighter in there as opposed to his previous fight with Maia. It could've been, but I really don't know about it, I don't think it was likely.

He landed 5 clean hits in round one, hurt him bad with one of them. I have it saved on my computer, just re-watched round one.
Sonnen lost the stand up in other rounds but thats because he was thinking "takedown takedown takedown", when it was stand-up vs stand-up Sonnen clearly got the better of Anderson. You could probably make a case for Anderson not trying very hard in round one of his fights but still, he got beat pretty bad.

One of those I'll give Sonnen his credit to, the other ones he landed clean in round 1 Silva let him. After Silva was stunned with the straight left he didn't see coming, he literally put his hands down and let Sonnen tee off on him, hit him clean on the chin with all his power, and Silva just stood there and took it like it was nothing. The first punch was really it, the rest in that round Silva pretty much let Sonnen hit him by putting his hands down and standing in front of him with no head movement and not attempting to block anything.

The fight went pretty much how i and I'm sure others thought it would.
sonnen repeatedly takes anderson down and pounds on him until the fourth or five round where he slows down and anderson subs him.
But i don't think he was hurt by sonnen on the feet, he kind of did just act it up including the slip in the fifth.
I do seriously doubt however that he was specifically aiming for the sub in the fifth and didn't really try too hard for the other ones he attempted as it is too much of a risk. especially when he is talking about legacy.

It's funny how everyone dwells on that punch that chael landed but no one ever mentions the elbow that Silva landed in round 4 (I think).
Chael was much more hurt by that strike than Anderson was by that punch imo.
As for a "rope a dope" type gameplan from Anderson....I don't think that's the case. I think chael fought an excellent fight and Silva's ribs were really bothering him. I mean, chael IS a stylistic bad match up for Anderson afterall.....

Yeah I agree, I actually thought Silva was going to finish him after he landed that elbow. I think after that half-hearted shot Chael took after he got hurt and if Anderson just stood up instead of taking top position, he probably would've finished him, but he took top position and got reversed, which led to the amazing 5th round triangle!

Yeah, I was screaming at the tv when Anderson followed chael to the ground after he hurt him. I knew he would get reversed smh.

LOL! I don't know man, he did the same thing to Hendo when he hurt him and look what happened there, I really do think his ribs played a solid part in that fight. He didn't look the same in my opinion, I think the Anderson without that injury takes top position, softens him up a bit, passes his guard, takes his back, and chokes him out like he did to Henderson, but the real finish was even better!

i dont think silva would ever rope a dope, because i remember once hearing him say in an interview that the main thing he wants in his fights is to come out of the cage the same way he went in (think it was after the leites fight). if thats his mentality then he would never let chael beat on him for 4.5 rounds, no matter how ineffective chaels punches are.

If Anderson planned it out to win in the 5th then he's the greatest of all time.

Here's how I saw it. Chael hit that first punch and shocked/pissed off Silva. Silva got angry and stood there and attempted to demoralize Chael by showing him his punches don't hurt.
Much like in the Griffin fight where he showed he couldn't hit him.
At the end of the 2nd or 3rd round, Anderson starts grabbing his side at the end of the rounds on his walk back to his corner. I don't remember the exact round and not going to look it up.
By the 5th round, Sonnen's coach noticed and told Sonnen to take out his ribs which was his downfall. When Sonnen was punching Anderson in the ribs a few times just before the triangle, He left himself open for the elbow that stunned him bringing about Silva throwing up the triangle and finishing the fight.
The Ali theory is also possible because of the time in the 4th round where Chael had his right arm fully extended lightly punching Anderson in the face, If you want to call those punches, just to stay active on the ground to not get stood up. I thought the opportunity for a triangle was very clear at that point but I haven't watched the fight since the PPV.
