On October 3rd, Battleground MMA will have Jim Ross and Chael Sonnen team up to call the action on PPV. Just wanted to see what everyone thinks about this. Ive never seen JR call anything but pro wrestling. Is he just as good? How educated is he on the sport of MMA as a whole? Does this team have any potential to go beyond an organization like Battleground?

Battlegrounds didn't hire chael and some wrestling guy because they're good, it's because they'll get attention as an organization...this is an investment.

I'veheard him commentate boxing on FS 1 and he wasn't bad. He's always been an MMA fan as long as I know. I think he'll do well.

He talked about doing UFC shows last year and said it would be a fairly easy transition. I'm sure he'll do just fine.

I know its just to grab media attention. But you never know. Maybe they end up being a great pair, w/ awesome chemistry. Maybe they end up complementing each other well. They might be brought back again, who knows? Maybe they do such a great job, some big wig, somewhere, goes "Hey maybe I should try to hire these guys full time." And yes, I know I'm being way overly optimistic.

I'm glad Chael is working his way back into MMA. He deserved his 2 year ban by the commission and maybe even being released by the UFC but I don't think he deserved to lose his spot with FOX. I hope he can regain some ground.

Jim Ross is one of the best commentators in all of sports. Football, pro wrestling, boxing, and now MMA! The man is very passionate and well-educated every time you put a microphone in front of him, and I think he'll do great!
