Former UFC interim welterweight champ Carlos Condit said his priority remains winning the undisputed title, as well as putting on great fights for the fans.
Now that an opportunity in the latter category appears to have materialized, he'd like to seize the day. With Tarec Saffiedine still injured, he called for a bout with the surging Matt Brown.
"He's been on a tear, and it'd be really exciting for the fans," Condit (29-7 MMA, 6-3 UFC) told MMAjunkie.com Radio.
Brown (18-11 MMA, 11-5 UFC) was recently targeted to fight Saffiedine (14-3 MMA, 0-0 UFC) in December at an undetermined event. But Saffiedine is not healthy enough to train, according to a recent report from Yahoo! Sports, and might not be ready to fight until next year. The former Strikeforce champ targeted Brown or Condit for his return at the end of this year or early 2014.
Condit, who recently avenged a previous loss by stopping Martin Kampmann in UFC Fight Night 27's headliner this past week, also targeted early 2014 for his next fight. But Brown is the opponent he'd like to face.
"I'd like that fight, and we'll have to see what happens," Condit said.

Just another reason to love Condit, instead of whining and talking about how he should get the next crack at the strap, he says a fight with Brown would be what the "Fans" want to see and he'd be down to accommodate them. 3 Cheers to the Natural Born Killer. Great point. Condit has been one of my favorites since he was the WEC champ, and this only bumps him higher up my list.

Great fight. Brown would get jacked by Condit. I don't see how Brown could win this if it happens. Condit is better in all areas of MMA.

Brown has far less of a chance to beat Condit than Weidman had against Silva. His brawling style is exactly what Condit is best at.

Idk about that, Brown has stated on more than one occasion that he is a better wrestler than GSP, if you don't believe him, just ask him.

I agree. I used to think Condit was an arrogant a-hole but since he's been in the UFC (losing to Kampmann kind of humbled him) I've totally changed my attitude toward him. I was hoping like hell he would have beat GSP.

I think you got it twisted. Condit's wrestling is a work in progress, so he challenges a guy who doesn't have top level wrestling and a guy with holes in his game. Also a guy with a good amount of hype right now. Instead of being matched up with guys like Koscheck or Pierce who can possibly hold him down for three rounds.

Twisted??? I think not. I guarantee you take a poll on who people would rather see fight, this one would be high on the list especially with the availability and timing factored in. He could always sit back and talk about how he deserves the next crack at the title, which he does already IMO, Just based off the Hendricks fight, who's thanking his lucky stars right now that their fight wasnt a main event and scheduled for 5 rds cause it would have ended in 4 by TKO, and GSP vs Condit 2 would be going down in Nov instead of Johnny/Georges. Besides Brown himself says he's a better wrestler than GSP

I agree that it sounds wayyyyy more exciting than almost any other fight for Condit. I was just saying I dont think Condit TOTALLY is calling him out for the fans. I think it has more to do with him seeing an easier win against a good ranked guy, instead of having a tough as hell fight against a likely matchup against some guy with a solid wrestling background.
