Not meaning this to be a fighter bash or anything.
BUT... I couldn't help but notice the clear size advantage Healy had over Blanco this weekend. I admit to being biased toward Blanco. Seeing him a few times on HDNet, he's got quite the highlight reel for so few fights. I was looking forward to his debut.
So, after getting lit up on the feet Healy proceeded to take Blanco down and get the sub.
Sub was great. Blanco was fading. Blanco did "illegally" kick him... but still, I can't help but complain about a clear instance where 1 fighter is cutting more than the other. Is Blanco going to be forced to fight at 145, or even worse, get shipped back to Japan because he lost to a journey-man fighter who probably outweighed him by 20lbs at fight time ?
It's a horrible situation. Guys like Blanco shouldn't be forced into lower weight divisions because they have guys coming down from 170 to fight them.

Henderson was bigger than Miller, so what. Its a fight and the fighters go in to these fights knowing that they will be bigger/smaller.

Fighters cut weight in America. Healy has fought his last 4 or 5 fights at 155. I had no idea that Maxi was goin to be so small to be honest (I started to call him MINImo Blanco). But I think 145 would be a good move.

Edgar over Penn (twice)
Cain over lesnar
Hendo over Fedor
Cruz over Faber
DC over Bigfoot
Benavidez and Demetrius Johnson over everybody they have ever beat. A
Smaller fighters win all the time if they have the proper talent and gameplay. Maybe Maxi has been fed a steady stream of sub-par competition or maybe he should learn to defend a TD.

This is true. I'm just worried that since he went to SF instead of the UFC that he may not get the opportunity. Losing to a guy w\ a 50/50 record doesn't get you into the UFC.

Cutting weight is far from a horrible situation. Healy was clearly larger but he is also more well rounded and more seasoned...simply a better fighter.

Blanco chooses to fight at 155 when he could clearly make 145 or 135. Healy is making an advantage in strength for himself by cutting weight however this hinders his stamina. Healy was smart and isn't even a huge 155er, he looks very cut but isn't nearly as big as Tibau or Dunham or Guillard IMO.
Blanco's fault not Healy's.

Maximo was beating him up pretty good... just got caught in a tough spot vs a much bigger guy... Im all for Maximo dropping down a class

it's a good win for healy. if blanco isn't comfortable at the weight, he should drop. the fact that he was smaller shouldn't take anything away from healy's win.

If you can make weight, you can make weight.
If a guy is genuinely 'too big' for a given weight division, he'll either continually miss weight (see Daley, Paul and Alves, Thiago) and/or completely destroy his cardio in the process of cutting.
Healy cuts from past 170lbs, but makes weight consistently and wins fights without losing his cardio, so fair play to him.
Blanco had an impressive win streak at 155lbs prior to tonight so I don't think he's being 'forced to drop down' by the likes of Healy. However, Healy is not the biggest lightweight fighter on the planet, with Gray Maynard, Jim Miller and a few others striking me as being a bit more massive. With that in mind, if Blanco is thinking about making a run at Strikeforce or even UFC gold, he'd better consider...
a) bulking up a bit (Frankie Edgar & Clay Guida show that success can be acheived by relatively smaller lightweights who work hard on their muscle mass & strength)
or
b) dropping down to 145lbs
and definately
c) working on his takedown and submission defence

so funny.. this s--- happens all the time.. with even greater weight differences.. maybe Blanco should drop a weight class if he doesn't like getting held down by bigger guys.. Healy got a sub too, he didn't just lay on him and get a decision..

it was his first fight in america, and it not like it was a straight soccer kick. maybe if he had had 10+ fights in the cage under unified rules you can critisize him

Aside from the fact that you have a 170+ lb guy fighting a 155lb guy. Which is why weight cutting is bulls---. It's funny seeing people defend it and say Blanco should move down. That's like saying everybody is using steroids, so lets make the one guy not using steroids use them or gtfo. That's exactly the stance you take when you back weight cutting.
It really is mind boggling. Weight classes exist solely to prevent fights like this from happening. Guys shouldn't be forced to move down in weight just because people choose to circumvent the rules. If you put more regulation on weight cutting, things would all even out.

You must not have HDNet. Blanco has some great highlights. And s---.. if you have 1 arm trapped, and a leg in danger of getting subbed... you expect him to just tap out instead of try to get free? Those kicks did less damage than a few solid punches would have done.

Illegal strikes on his record:
DQ loss to Akihiko Mori for an illegal soccer kick
No Contest with Yuki Yashima for 'accidental' head-butt
He's not exactly innocent.

Yes congtratulation Pat, it was a well deserved win, that you took on short notice, putting you on a impressive 6-1 run over your last 7 fights.
Way to keep at it and keep on getting better-
I'd like to see them give you a rematch with Josh Thomson.

It's not Healys fault Blanco is alot smaller than him. Weight cuttings part of the sport especially at the highest lever, 90% of guys fights at the lowest weight they can comfortably make, if Blanco can make 145 then he should do it.

Frankie Edgar doesn't cut weight, but he beats guys that are 20 pounds heavier than him. He just has, y'know, skill. Blanco doesn't. Hence he lost.
