I just know I'll be reading things like "Silva was toying with him", "Silva was bored" and "Silva was planning on taking him out in the 4th or 5th".

You're right. I guess some topics just annoy me more than others, cause we don't know what would have happened if the fight continued. I'm pretty sure Silva would have won regardless, I have no interest in a rematch, and hope Cote can show up again and fight a few true top contenders.
In my opinion, though, Cote is beating a deadhorse here.

Cote gets under my skin. His arrogence is un-warranted. I dont care if he has a good chin. His offense sucks. He offers nothing to match Silva's skills. Even if he doesnt get KO'd, he will lose on points.

I believe that Cote wasn't scared but that's because the guy had nothing to lose. If he get's KO'd by the arguable P4P best fighter in the world he's exactly where he was before. So he had nothing to be afraid of. Obviously I don't think anyone besides a few Canadians thought he was going to win that fight. I believe A. Silva and what he stated after his fight about his late round KO game plan. I would hate to see a rematch with Silva since he plans on retiring soon but if he truly decides to stick around after he finishes this contract out....I wouldn't mind seeing it because I think the next time A. Silva would finish him inside of a minute.
I think Norm is right on, Cote will be talking about this and the Ortiz knockdown forever.....like Uncle Rico from Napoleon Dynamite.

Eating a few huge power shots from McFeidries then giving it right back to knock him out also is nothing to sneeze at.

Cote was just a guy they put in front of Anderson as they really had no other options out there... He had dismantled the next best (arguably) middleweight twice, and laid a beating on a guy in his first fight at 205... The thing is nobody stands out from the crowd of guys that are at 185 and not named Anderson Silva.
A lot of people are riding Cote acting as if he had no business being in the cage with Anderson Silva - and while they are not on the same page talent wise there is nobody else at 185 that deserved to be in there anymore than Cote did - for whatever that's worth.

What I'm trying to say is that after AS there isn't really anybody that is a clear #2 (other than Franklin - who is no longer at MW)... I think you could substitute Okami for Cote or anybody else - but I don't think they necessarily are more deserving than anybody else... Neither Okami or Cote have particularly good pedigrees when it comes to who they have beat in the UFC... In fact of the guys Okami has beat I think there is maybe 1 or 2 guys still fighting at 185 in the UFC (and IMO Mike Swick should never have fought at 185... 170 id the right place for him).

I see what you are saying. I think Okami would handle Cote though. I'd say Hendo is the likely no 2 at MW and Marquardt, Leites, Maia, are in the mix for top 5. Palhares has loads of promise and Okami deserves a title shot. All of those guys would probably beat Cote will little trouble.
