Got my Comcast bill today... $281.28!!!!
Called them to figure out what the eff happened, I guess my "intro rate"expired and this is the true cost of the package I have.
Well, this is not going to stand.
Best recommendations for cutting the cord? And... go!

Yikes. Cut the cord 3 years ago. Don't miss cable at all. Netflix, Disney+ pkg with Hulu and ESPN+, and Amazon TV which comes with my Prime membership. Plenty of quality options for about 30 per month total, paying for Prime annually. I pick up HBO for 15 a month when the BIG shows are airing, cut it off when they're done

Not sure how it works in the US but with our cable companies you call and ask to cancel your service. They transfer you to the retention department to finalize. They offer your original rate (sometimes plus 5 or 10 bucks) to stay and you accept. Repeat every few years as needed.

Same thing happened to me recently. My $35 into period expired, went to $60-65!@
I actually had a dude from spectrum come by just before I found out about the rate change too. I've been going back & forth every 2-3 years because of this s---. Rate doubles. Competitor rate is ~50%. Hulu & Netflix are each around $15. Probably should get espn+ at some point too.

Dropped DTV in Nov. Changed to Hulu Live with no ads. I still have HBO and STARZ.
Steaming I have Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, HBO, Starz, Amazon Prime....
Hulu GUI takes some getting used too but that is about it. Don't have to use the DVR as with Hulu live shows are online the next day after live air.

It's tough for me because my wife stays at home all day (disabled) and utilizes the TV more than I ever would.

I did call them yesterday and I can save around $100 if I drop the "premium" channels.
Most likely doing to do that, and then just buy HBO streaming for a month whenever one of our shows finishes it's season.
But first... need to watch Season 5 of The Wire.

Traaaaaash
I think the thing for most people is, "well I've ALWAYS had cable/satellite tv."
Same concept applied to house phones, look how many of u don't miss that.
Much better viewing options on streaming services than ANYTHING on cable

Agreed.
I'm 90% sure we're going to call Comcast, tell them we're cancelling cable because we can keep internet for $60/mo (until T-Mobile releases their internet for cheaper) and then pay $50-60 for Hulu Live. That's about $130 a month after Comcast's fees and taxes.
If Comcast says the best they can do is $170/mo ($150 + $20 fees and taxes), it's a pretty easy decision to walk away.
If they can get me down closer to $140-150 (after taxes/fees), I'll probably puss out and stay with them.... I don't mind paying an extra 10-15% for the familiarity I have with their platform, I just don't want to pay a 40+% premium, that's ridiculous. (and I'm sure as s--- not continuing to pay $280 a month, f---ing insanity)
Yea... we lose HBO/Starz/Skinomax/Showtime/TMC, but honestly all of those services can be picked up a la carte for $10-15/mo and then cancelled after we binge everything we want to watch in the month we re-up. It's cheaper to just rent the movies a la carte, and/or buy the 2-3 series on each network that we watch than it is to get bent over and raped without lube every month to keep them.

I went to YouTube tv about a year ago and I really like the service.
You can watch live but The Dvr is really easy to use and lets me record all the sports and shows I want to watch. I search for "unc basketball" and add it to my library and every game across all channels are recorded. I have full seasons of sitcoms I want to watch and get local news across all local providers.
I cut Hulu almost a month later. I only get Netflix, espn+, and hbo for a month at a time when there is something I specifically want to watch.

Question(s) re: YouTube TV
Can you record shows, and then fastforward thru commercials?
If yes, follow-up question... is there a limit to the number of shows you can record at once?

If added to your library and recorded to the Dvr, you can fast forward with zero restrictions on how many events to record.
If you watch something "on demand" which is a option the commercials can't be skipped.
Another cool aspect is with sporting events I mentioned if you search "unc basketball" when you add to your library a prompt will ask you "do you want to record all unc games? All ACC games? All college basketball games? All basketball?" If you are a superfan or team specific you can control the recordings and not have to remember to do anything other than set the initial interest. On top of this it gives advanced sport stats through the broadcast you can access while watching.
It works well because it has a lot of networks my wife likes and live sports for me.

I might have to look into that. The only thing I miss about cable is live sports. We currently have netflix, hulu, disney+ and espn+ package. I believe amazon as well, but that's for prime for the fiance. I dont stream hardly anything, but have been missing live sports big time.
With youtubetv, we could realistically just keep Netflix and espn plus. The kiddos barely watch disney plus.
What's the max you can record on *dvr*??
