Bummer but it's nice to know he is going out on his own terms. The time is about right too it seems. Always a fan and wish him the best after his fight this weekend

wasn't a huge fan, but good for him if he feels like it's time
I think we're seeing alot more guys recently leaving on their own and knowing when it's time

Great Muay Thai and generally just a good dude. Nice if he went out with a bang.

if he knocks out latifi, that will be 2 more open spots on the ufc roster.

It's weird when guys do this because you don't know their motivation going in. Warriors like Lytle you knew was going out with a bang...this guy, not so sure. Might put my money on the other guy.

People also don't remember that Latifi trains regularly with Gustafsson and is finally coming into a UFC fight with a full camp. Motivation seems to be the key factor in who will win this fight at this point.

im giving the guy the benefit of the doubt for his extremely short notice fight last time...
But he looked f---ing awful, and had a TERRIBLE game plan.
If he resembles anything that fought Saucy Moose, id want him to get cut faster then Nicole Brown Simpson and go get some work done in another org before a 3rd fight in the UFC.

How many guys in Mousasi's career have really looked good against him other than Machida...and that's MACHIDA.
The only logical gameplan you can have taking an extremely short notice fight with Gegard when you're not really at that level is to survive. And he did that, and even put in some effort in the last round if I remember correctly.

Its not about who looked "really good", who else who fought Moose looked sluggish, uncoordinated and unskilled? The guy looked like he didnt belong in the cage at all.
Clinch, push him up against the cage, put all your weight on him to tire him out, try to force a grappling match to limit the obvious striking advantage he has, but dont hang out in his guard or stand above him where he will upkick you.

Everything the coach in you suggested is easier said than done.

As is any game plan.
But, stay on the outside and try to out box Moose and never attempt to grapple isnt exactly a game plan I would have ever considered giving this guy with his build and skill set. It was just flat out, a bad plan.

Who knows that his original plan was? For all we know, nerves got to him and Gegard implemented his plan before Latifi could his.

i'd say that latifi had a better chance of surviving on the feet than on the ground due to mousasi's sometimes laid back striking approach
if you can do this to machida, you can reverse latifi easily and latifi probably knew this
