They really need to start somewhere. The UFC needs to set a precedent and let fighters know that they're employees of Zuffa, and there job is to fight whoever they're matched up with.
They should have done this alot sooner because this wasn't really an issue until recently where everybody is training with everybody. This doesn't happen in any other sports and it's something that really holds MMA back in a big way.

I find it hard to believe that Dana would make such a big deal out of signing Jake Shields if he didn't plan to give him a title shot if he beats Kampmann.

I love the wrestlng aspect of mma... maybe its not as exciting as striking for some (go watch boxing then) but i find it facsinating when another man can literally man handle you on the ground, and there's nothing you can do about it for 15-25 minutes.
I hope Fitch and Hughes win this saturday to set up a war between the two for a shot at the WW championship.

I love watching dynamic grappling but Fitch just takes guys down and lays in guard while landing mostly ineffectual GnP. He doesn't pass very often, posture up for harder GnP or work on subs. Hughes LnP'd his way by Serra. A Fitch vs Hughes match up may be the most boring one since Shamrock vs Severn if it wasn't for the fact Fitch would actualy have a striking advantage over Hughes.
It doesn't matter because Kampmann, Shields, Alves and Fitch are all higher up than Hughes and there is no way Matt get a shot anytime soon regardless of your love affair for him.

I didn't say I don't like wrestling... what I don't like is lay and pray. If you can out-wrestle somebody and then submit or ground and pound them, that's great.
The fact is, a lot of people defend technical wrestling without a finish BECAUSE it's technical... but if that were the standard for everything, we'd all enjoy watching grass grow (which is a technical marvel WAY more advanced than fitch-like wrestling).
It's the same thing with music... guitarists like joe satriani and steve vai are WAY more technically sound than most of the music we listen to, but the fact is, most of us don't listen to that crap because we're more concerned with song writing and interesting artistic developments in music.

It can be boring sometimes, but you know what.... if you're an elite fighter, get out of the position. GSP never gets taken down, and it he's on his back it's for maybe 30 seconds. A good fighter takes the fight where they want it to go. I respect guys like Fitch and Hughes because they can control the fight. Hughes has finished many a top contender due to elbows or subs.
As far as the Serra fight goes, Hughes controlled the top against a bjj black belt, not an east thing to do. The fight was close for sure, and maybe a little boring, but Hughes got butted and concussed in the 1st, and did what he had to do to win the fight

Honestly, what has Alves done to prove he deserves a shot at the title? One win over Fitch shouldn't put him in title contention when he hasn't fought in over a year, and his last fight was him getting completely dominated by the current WW champion. If Alves wins and the Shields beats Kampman, then Shields should get the shot without a doubt.

yep exactly. i personally believes that if fitch wins, he should fight koscheck for no1 contendership to face gsp. then after all this, kampmann or shields will be in line to fight for title.

You've failed to acknowledge my point about grass growing (or steve vai playing guitar)... technicality isn't enough to keep people watching. I can appreciate Fitch being able to take the fight where he wants to, but that doesn't mean I want to watch it.

If GSP and Koscheck had just fought last weekend, I'd be happy with this announcement. But, with GSP & Kos not happening for another 4 months, this announcement is disappointing. The winner of this fight is going to sit on the sidelines for 8 months or so, more if the winner of GSP - Kos gets injured.
Dana talks about how fighters in the UFC consistently fight the best 3 times a year, yet the top welterweights seem to have 8 month lulls in their schedules (because of TUF).

Agreed, I heard speculation that Shields will get the next title shot if he beats Kampmann, unfortunately with no verifiable source. Now the winner of Fitch/Alves II gets Koscheck. Seems a little off to me.
