On the TUF finale were a few occasions where Kenny mistakenly(?) called the anaconda a darce. My understanding is that a darce is when you hold the bicep that is further away from your opponents arm that is caught in the choke while an anaconda is when you hold the bicep closest to your oppponents arm that's caught in the choke.
Am I missing something or...?

Anaconda your choking arm goes in by their neck and comes out their armpit. Darce is the opposite, choking arm goes under their armpit and comes out at their neck. That's the difference.

So it's like I said then. Did you notice Kenny's calls about the darce and did you think they were correct? I'm pretty sure there were no darce chokes on the card.(or clearly attempted ones)

If you want to argue it, it wasn't really either. It was still more of a guillotine than anything. The grip was just anaconda style.

Wow, I always thought they were the same thing. I blame the UFC for not educating me

The only time I mentioned this was Kampmanns choke, which wasn't really a d'arce, anaconda or a guillotine.

A D'arce is more painful and quicker than an anaconda. It's also easier to see coming though.

Ya know the one fancy choke I find is the tightest,is the front guillotine, but with the hand on bicep. It might be just me but whenever I'm drilling that move as soon as the hand on the bicep hits, before I've executed the rest and squeeze they tap instantly.
No wonder the likes of Bones and Diaz always catch people with that move.Obviously the rear naked is the most devastating..

To be fair, I don't think they get monitors (and if they do, they probably don't look at them until after the round). It's easy to catch mistakes when we are always shown the best camera angle to see action. The commentators, however, can only see what their position allows for. I don't know where he was sitting in relation to the choke, but he could have been calling it while only being able to see his back.

i actually noticed this as well. I think he called Oliveira's choke a darce when it was actually an anaconda. On top of announcing the wrong choke he also has to pronounce it in the super douchey (albeit correct) Dee-Ar-Say

I don't blame Kenny for any mistake if any. First off they are very similar chokes. Also you have to remember that Kenny's view of the fights isn't as clear as ours.
