Diaz vs. Edwards

My first thoughts on this fight are..cool...i'm interested in this one, should be fun and I am looking forward to it. As I mull though, as all of us do on this forum, I'd say that this pairing is a do or die for Edwards and that's a strange thing to say. He's not a magnetic personality..he's failed to interest people for one reason or another despite his string of victories. If he can't beat Diaz, then I think he would get lowered significantly on the ufc totem poll, no more title shots, less promotion, etc. It's all upside for Diaz though, win or lose. if he wins the McGregor cash cow awaits him. Lose..the McGregor cash chow probably still awaits him, he gets a solid pay day and he stays in the public eye and continues to entertain us all with his schtick. Diaz doesn't need a title. He's a star. Long a&& post from me

You are partly right about Edwards. This is going to be his biggest payday by far so that's a win for him but it is a must win for him. If he loses what you said I believe does happen. On the other hand I think Diaz needs this fight. There is significantly more upside for him if he wins but if he loses the only fight out there for him is McGregor. The loser in all of this though is Covington. His inactivity is going to be a problem if he wants a title shot. I truly expect the winner of Usman/Masvidal to want/get the winner of Edwards/Diaz.
The big F.U. to Covington is pretty funny. No Masvidal or Usman. Now no Diaz or Edwards. Does he fight Chiesa, S.Thompson, Luque or G. Burns? Stir the political pot and match him vs Belal Muhammad? (My guess is Colby will just wait it out and be #1 contender since the title fight is in 3 weeks)
Regardless, those 6 need to be matched into 3 fights. Put them all on the same card even. Throw in a G.Neal vs S. Ponzinibbio fight to get one of those back up in contention.

Now that Troop mentions it if Masvidal wins that's the only way Covington gets an automatic title shot. It's an easy sell for the UFC and fans want to see it. Otherwise, I don't see anything happening for Covington. I expect Usman, Diaz and Edwards to sit out until possibly the end of the year (or longer) after their fights.

Yep. but also if Masvidal wins and Diaz wins, marketing a Masvidal vs Diaz rematch is pretty easy and lucrative as well. not the same level but similar to if Usman and Edwards both win, since there's been talks and almost scheduling that fight, UFC might opt for Usman vs Edwards before Covington. Hmm....maybe Covington does need to humble and take a Luque or Burns fight now after all??
If Leon wants to become a draw and get a front of the line pass for title shots . He’s gotta go the Masvidal route. Stop trying to grind out fights and start going for knockouts . Especially if your specialty is your striking. As soon as Jorge came to that realization, he became a superstar . All fans love KOs. This is his chance to finally make a statement.

Yep, win or lose, I hope Diaz gets a Masvidal fight and Conor fight before he smokes off into the sunset. Timing might be right because with Masvidal fighting on 4/24 and Diaz on 5/15, Diaz vs Masvidal could be late Summer, after Poirier vs Conor in July. Diaz vs Conor could be end of year fight? Obviously the right people need to win or lose for it to line up.
