As per Dana's Twitter.
Diego Sanchez broke his hand. Looking for a replacement for Hughes.

Someone get Rory MacDonald on the phone.
From Junkie:
Diego Sanchez (23-4 MMA, 12-4 UFC) has been forced to withdraw from a planned UFC 135 co-headlining matchup with Matt Hughes (45-8 MMA, 18-6 UFC).
UFC president Dana White today announced the move via Twitter.
"Diego Sanchez broke his hand," White wrote. "Looking for a replacement for Hughes."
UFC 135 takes place Sept. 24 at Denver's Pepsi Center. A title fight between light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson headlines the pay-per-view main card.
A timeframe for Sanchez's return to action wasn't announced.
Earlier this year, Sanchez picked up his second straight win with a close but highly competitive unanimous-decision victory over Martin Kampmann at March's UFC on Versus 3 event. "The Ultimate Fighter 1" middleweight winner and recent lightweight competitor returned to his more natural welterweight division in 2010 and suffered an uninspired decision loss to John Hathaway. However, he's since rebounded with wins over Paulo Thiago and Kampmann that both earned "Fight of the Night" awards.
Meanwhile, Hughes hasn't fought since November 2010, when he suffered a quick, 21-second knockout to B.J. Penn. Hughes, who long had been considered the best welterweight in MMA history, briefly contemplated retirement in 2008 following back-to-back losses to Georges St-Pierre and Alves. However, while fighting only occasionally, the UFC Hall of Famer had put together a three-fight win streak with wins victories Matt Serra, Renzo Gracie and Ricardo Almeida before the recent Penn loss.

Re: Diego Sanchez broke his hand, out of UFC 135
I think we posted about this at the exact same time. I was too lazy to start a new thread though.

Brian Ebersole should take this, ticks all his boxes.

Damn, this card is losing all the good match ups! Wouldn't be surprised if Hardy got the call, lost his 5th straight, and still kept his job. Other than that...I'm not sure what other fights would be good for Hughes.
^ I would have said Ebersole too since he's a veteran, but he is a veteran with not much of a name to sell to UFC fans. Koscheck?
Dave Camarillo
Koscheck? RT @joerogan: “@danawhite: Diego Sanchez broke his hand. Looking for a replacement for Hughes.” Fuuuuuuuuck

Since those two idiots won't fight each other, how about either Fitch or Koscheck take the fight. I like the idea of Fitch fighting a wrestler.

Like I said, Sanchez doesn't belong in the same sentence.

I say give Fitch a call. Hughes is one of the only guys he has not fought. Kos would be a good pick too... Unfortunately I see this going like Ace's last fight. UFC will not find Hughes someone he thinks is "worthy" of a fight with him and we will see an under card fight moved up.
Shame, I was really looking forward to Diego putting Hughes into retirement for good this time....

Man...this card was already weak excluding the main event. Gomi and Diaz is the ONLY other fight I wanna see lol. Kinda wanna see Travis Browne back in action too. But mann...wtf. Weak as hell.....
BUT!!!
this card is still worth the money because of Bones/Rampage alone. That's one of the biggest fights of the year, no question. They should get Fitch in there with Hughes, I would love to see Hughes beat Fitch's *** if that can happen. Hardy wanted to take some time off but maybe he needs to get back in there quick instead. Work on his overall game while continuing to fight consistently. Nobody wants to see Rory Mcdonald fight Hughes, Mcdonald would probably kill em. Move
Charlie Brenanman vs Anthony Johnson
to this card, that fight is just 1 week later!!! Keep Hughes on the card though : )

I'm going to predict that Dana will put together something much better than Hughes and Sanchez. I'm also predicting the card will still look weak but will deliver come fight night. Just as it usually does.

1. Let Nate fight Diaz and find someone else to fight Gomi.
2. If Koscheck is ready to go then they can do that.
3. Maybe Pyle, MacDonald, Kim, or a few others.

Sweet, Hughes is gonna get beaten up though most likely. Koscheck is better where Hughes is strongest(wrestling) and better where Hughes is weak(striking). However Hughes has power, Koscheck has a questionable chin and questionable striking defense. Hughes could do to him what he did to Almeida but my head is telling me that Koscheck will beat him up for 4 minutes 30 on the feet and if its close he will take Hughes down to secure the round and then win a UD. Koscheck will land a lot of hard right hands but I don't know if he could finish Hughes tbh.

Cuz he broke his hand and cant fight? I dont get it. Obviously Matt Hughes is prolly the #2 WW of all time and for a while was the #1 WW of all time....But what does his broken hand have anything to do with him not being in the same sentance?

Because he is implying that Diego Sanchez is so much better than Hughes, that he should never ever be mentioned in the same sentence.
(I agree, I thought Sanchez was going to decimate Hughes. But I wouldn't go as far as not being mentioned in the same sentence, in his prime he was the WW goat. Was being the key word.)

Before I knew this fight was scheduled, I said that he didn't belong in the same sentence as Matt Hughes. Now, that he is out, I am reiterating.
