It appears
T.J. Dillashaw
will defend his UFC title on home turf.
Recently crowned UFC bantamweight champion after a dominant victory over
Renan Barao
, Dillashaw will likely have to do it again on August 30, as MMAFighting.com's Ariel Helwani reported on Wednesday's edition of UFC Tonight on FOX Sports 1 that the UFC is close to giving Barao an immediate at
UFC 177
in Sacramento, California.
UFC 177 was tentatively planned for Las Vegas, Nevada, but appears to be moving to the new champion's home town.
Dillashaw (10-2) looks to defend the 135-pound championship after shocking the MMA world with a fifth-round TKO victory in May, snapping Barao’s 30-plus unbeaten streak. In his previous UFC bout, Dillashaw dominated
Mike Easton
en route to a unanimous decision at
UFC Fight Night 35
.
Barao (32-2, 1 no-contest) will attempt to bounce back from a loss for the first time since 2005, when he lost a decision against Joao Paulo Rodrigues in his MMA debut. The Nova Uniao talent holds a 9-1 record under the UFC and WEC banners, including a pair of victories over Dillashaw’s teammate
Urijah Faber
.

If this happens, I'll definitely watch. It would be interesting to see how Barao would go about preparing for the fight.

The UFC is taking the initiative in trying to build Dillashaw into a star. Especially since this fight is in his hometown.

I kinda understand why you feel that way, but man, that guy hadn't lost in 9 years and I truly believe TJ wants this fight just to prove it wasnt a "fluke" as people like to call it. Remind you of anyone? A certain MW champion maybe?

I'm sure that deeeeep down, Faber is jealous as f*ck. Dillashaw is not only a UFC champ, but he is now headlining a PPV for his first title defense IN Sacramento. While Faber is stuck fighting a guy who isn't even top ten on the prelims of a PPV card.....Idk man, if I were Faber, I'd be plotting to assassinate Dillashaw right about now.

Well at least it isn't in Brazil as originally rumoured.

This is bs. TJ didn't get a quick ko where you can say Barao got caught. He didn't win a controversial decision. He beat Renans *** every round until he knocked him out in the 5th. Total domination. He should be fighting Assuncao.

Can't wait for this one. Barao is still the #1 contender and likely takes the rematch.

Good rematch.
And does Barao finally decide to make the move to FW if he loses?

I don't like this rematch. I don't know how more dominant that Dillashaw could've been to Barao for him to deserve an instant rematch.
I think Renan could've had another fight and maybe Dillashaw could've fought Assuncao cuz theres certainly unfinished business there.

Do think at a certain point DW will just come out in a press conference and admit that there is no longer any basis for matchmaking? Lose the contender fight? get a shot at the belt (twice now). Have the belt and lose? instant rematch. Lose your title challenge? just beat one other person, doesn't matter who, and get a shot again. Beat four or five guys in a row in a thin division? well maybe if you win one more, but it has nothing to do with your appearance.
drawing power = title shots, done
