The modern man ventured into the world about 130.000 years ago, give or take, agriculture and the neolithic revolution and all that drove humankind into developing larger communities about 12.000 years ago. Of course, various "h---" or "hominins" or whatever it's called, have been roaming the earth far earlier than that, but we have only begun to understand to what extent.
Published today, National Geographic unveils finds of stone tools in the Philippines, that are over 700.000 years old. What's interesting is not only the age, but that it's on an island, meaning they might have sailed there. Were there really humanoids that built boats over 700.000 years ago?
Several other recent finds hint at a large history we have yet to discover. So, do you believe that some hominins might have developed further than we have reason to believe, the Graham Hancock line of thought? even small cities perhaps?

Here’s a really dumb question that I’m going to be crucified for. How accurate is carbon dating? When I looked it up it says “Radiocarbon dating. C (the period of time after which half of a given sample will have decayed) is about 5,730 years, the oldest dates that can be reliably measured by this process date to around 50,000 years ago, although special preparation methods occasionally permit accurate analysis of older samples.”
Reliably measured to around 50,000...so how can they tell 700,000?

I do not think it would be comparable to types of civilizations as we understand the concept today.
But entirely possible that highly sophisticated hunter/gatherer groups grew until they hit critical population limits. That was probably the learning phase of all the concepts we know as recognizable civilization.
If someone 5000 years from now found a thumb drive they would not understand any of it because

It could show that h--- erectus or a version of that species was sea bound.. This changes things but not really a total flip as the historical record and what we really know about early h--- species has a ton of gaps with tens of thousands and in some cases hundreds of thousands of year holes.
As if there are civilizations before recorded or known history? 100% I think our historical record is not complete. There has been new finds from last year and this year of dated civilizations of about 15k years. Which is about 3k years before the stated norm. When you look at the Asia region. China holds tons of secrets about their civilization and when it started.
